I am so everything, excited, scared, relieved, nervous... Dear Keri, I am so happy for you. You must have good insurance. I know that you are going to have a mixture of feelings before your surgery. I did and I wondered sometimes if I could go through with it. My pancreas wouldn't let me get out of the surgery though. Like you when I thought I could make it without the surgery my pancreas would let me know that it was never going to get any better. I looked forward to the surgery but I was frightened. I had so many emotions. I was so excited when I thought about being attack free and pain free. I know exactly what you are feeling but I know that something has to be done. After my surgery I had incision pain but I didn't have pancreas pain and it was wonderful. Congratulations Keri. I will be keeping you in my prayers for a very successful surgery and a speedy recovery. I will be counting down the days. After surgery remember that your pancreatitis friends are at their computers thinking and praying for your speedy recovery. I am so happy for you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Love, ShirleyPS I will forward your e-mail about your surgery date to Sue and Gail just to be sure they have read your mail. They will be so excited to know that you too will be rid of your pancreas soon and will feel so much better. You can join the angel club with the rest of us. That's what I call Sue my angel. Guest guest
I have great news. My insurance company received the letter of recomendation for surgery from Sutherland on Tuesday morning and they approved me on Wednesday. So my surgery is scheduled for Nov. 17th, that is a Monday, and I have to be there for pre-op stuff on friday the 14th. Never give up hope, Keri Beck Good morning Keri, Finally!!! The wait to get this approval must have been nerve wracking for you and Josh, and I'm so happy for you that it's come through and that they're going to provide such thorough coverage. That date will be here before you know it, and I know you have much to prepare for. It's exciting, yet I can understand some apprehension and questioning when you have a couple good days thrown into the mix. Just remember how quickly those good days turn around and remember the pain and misery you have to endure when they do, not to mention the never ending financial burden of hospital visits all the time. I am so happy for you, Keri! It's amazing that they can correct your weight burdens, too. I would think that the future loss of any added weight would also help make your recovery easier, too, so that when all's said and done, you emerge strong and healthy with a vigor that you lost when all this began. You will be much in my prayers, both now and throughout the time of your surgery and afterward. I feel a warming bond inside after having met you and Josh in August. It is so rewarding to meet the people in person that we talk to every day here on the board. I am increasingly encouraged by the power of prayer, and I'm so happy that yours were answered. This affirmation that our prayers are heard and the solutions that we seek are granted, strengthens my belief each day, and gives me so much hope for the future. Just recently I had a rather complex problem that I took to God in prayer, and within a day He solved it in such a way that I knew He had listened and intervened.....I am still today quite humbled by the experience, and I will never hesitate to turn to Him for help. Guest guest
Keri!!! Great news! I had a whole bunch of apprehension about surgery until I had a date. Once the date was set I let go of my worries and changed my mind set. I did this by deciding to focus only on my visualization of a successful outcome. I hope you too will be actively dreaming your goal of health. Mind set is the key I truly believe. I am one week for being 5 months out from surgery. I am doing really well now. I know you will do well too but you will do better than I!!! We are all going to believe now that you will not be diabetic. (but even if you end up having to take shots like I do, it isnt hard to do, and since my mind set is good I am staying on top of the diabetes and I will prevent complications) If you can get us a number so we can call you while you are in the hospital to chat. Trust me after a week in, you will be ready for a chat. Try to stay loose and confident right now. Just think lots of positive thoughts. Get a guided meditation tape and listen for 30 minutes daily. If your attitude is peaceful, centered, and positive the demanding parts will be less daunting. For me having a focused calm mind really helped me get through the time in surgical intensive care, which was the part that gave me the most anxiety before surgery. I worried about walking up intubated and being in bad pain. But I worked on my visualization and by the time I was in the SICU I was ready for it and it wasn't that bad. I am very excited for you! I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers. You will do excellent! Let me know if there is anything I can do for you. If I can help even in the smallest way just ask. It would make me happy to be of assistance. Blessings and long life, Bert
Guest guest
Hi Keri My name is VanderPan I also am having surgery with Dr, Sutherland in November , Ann Marie will be confirming me for the 21st. I am all the emotions you mentioned and probably a couple extras. I have been off and on this website over the past couple of years, unfortunately I havent developed friendships like most of you which is my own fault .... so if you did not mind my butting in I was excited to see someone else doing this. I just returned yesterday from Minnesota I was scheduled for surgery today( Oct 6th) I decided to postpone because with my history any small side effect or rare complication I have it lol So I wanted to be better prepared and have a Endocrinoligist and General physician lined up for my follow up care when I return home. My current Gastro will no longer be able to treat me if i do the surgery. So if I become insulin dependant , or still in pain I will be able to get pain meds and someone to help me wean off insulin as my islets begin to work. Do you have doctors lined up? How did you get your insurance to help with room and board meals , miles and gas??? Wow would love to get some extra help myself this has been extremely expensive. If any one else on the board could share this surgery experience i would love to hear, i hope this goes to everyone including Keri. I met Karyn briefly at the symposium in indianpolis, i live here was unable to stay for all lectures i had a doctor appointment. I am 34 years old and have had this disease for we know at least 5 years. I am very nervous , terrified anxious any info on this experience would be great !!!! Hope to get to know a few of you and Keri i am hoping we can visit each other at the hospital and meet. angela
Guest guest
Keri, that is some great news that the insurance approved your surgery with Dr. Sutherland. And that it takes care of all but a $100 copay. Have your husband keep us up to date on how you are doing while you are in the hospital and recovery as I'm sure you'll be to tired to email us at first. Major surgery is very taxing and you'll need to concentrate on getting better. You've got my prayers and best wishes that all goes well and that you'll soon be eating whatever you want without pain and nausea. Kimber -- Kimber Vallejo, CA hominid2@... Guest guest
Keri, One guided meditation tape I used with positive results was from the Brain Sync series and it is narrated by Howell. This website: http://www.aliensonearth.com/catalog/detail/0816/0816B003817.html has information on it and a small sample. It is also important to script your own. That way it really applies to you. Yes, I had fears about waking up tubed because I presumed I would be out of it, scared, and would panic. However I was pretty calm and I am sure the meds helped that. I remember my first stirings of consciousness, I was unable to open my eyes or move much but I could hear my wife and my father in the room. I wanted to let them know I was ok so I tried to give a thumbs up. What actually happened was I lifted my left hand up in a meaningful way, but no thumbs up. But they new I was trying to communicate with them and I remember hearing the excitement in their voices and it made me feel good. I was on the table almost 12 and a half hours. As a result they were very cautious with me. I spent a while on the vent while fully awake. I wont lie to you, I did have some gagging and I did fight the tube, but all in all it is bearable and the more relaxed you are the better. With any luck they will extubate you before you are fully aware of the tube. blessings, Bert
Guest guest
, I read your reply to Keri and I wanted to let you know that anytime you want to talk with anyone on the board, please do and I consider you a friend for just being on the board. I wish I had met you while you were at the Symposium (I was there), but maybe next time? I hope you and Keri get a chance to meet in Minnesota during your surgeries and you have my prayers and best wishes that the surgery goes well. Kimber -- Kimber Vallejo, CA hominid2@...
