Exactly right, of course. Besides, " sugar-coating " things is one of the things

that got us so darn fat, first in literally putting lots of sugar (and fat) on

or in our foods. Second, by " sugar-coating " our emotions, our feelings, our

denial, etc.

So, like Sandy, I try to be gentle too, but may not always be quite as

successful as she is at being nice and gentle. But I do try. Really.

And if anyone ever feels angry, hurt, etc, by what I write, I have two

suggestions. First, know that it was said with love and concern, and try to

forgive the wording that feels harsh to you. Second, really think about what

has been said, and see if it doesn't apply to you in some way. It probably

does.

Of course if I misread something or am totally off base, let me know that, too.

I also talk to quite a few bandsters on the phone, and have met quite a few in

person when they were traveling or I was traveling, and always glad to get

together. And if someone wants my phone number, contact me personally, or get

it off my web page. Unless a genuine emergency, please call at a " civilized

hour " , meaning any time except 10pm to 5am Mountain Time.

Sandy,

when I click on new links, all the links come up, I do not know which one was

just added.

If it is the one for " a good fill " , I much appreciated and I also had

responded at the Kuri board posting these tips, since lot of us are going this

Saturday for a fill.

Hope I did not do anything wrong by sharing youe experience with other

bandsters.

Blessings,

Lidia

I've also added an update to my own profile, with a several new

maintaining at goal for more than 3 yrs. Not easy, for sure, but I try

to share what I've learned along the way - even if it's hard to accept

sometimes!

While I try to be as gentle asa possible, neither Dan nor I believe in

sugar-coating impt things that we have to look at and think about,

accept and change. We have to let go of many of the excuses we've

hidden behind for years, if we want to lose weight and KEEP it off this

time.

Lidia, the " good fill " post was originally written for and published

in Dr. Kuri's newsletter about 18 months ago, and should still be in

the files over there. If not, let me know. i know Debby had some

trouble with and lost some of the reams of stuff I had in the

files there. It's what I did, and what I have my own patients do, and

it seems to help a lot in getting the best fill possible. And what I

suggest will never HURT.

People are always welcome to share whatever I do/say/write - we're

all in this together. but do remember that there are different ways

to do things, and not necessary one right way...

Sandy,

Thank you.

Looks like that they lost it but now Patti O. put it back at the Kuri site.

Sandy, thanks for the info. You are really an inspiration and cute as bug.

That is Texas talk and meant as a compliment. I'll look forward to your book.

It will be a year in July for me as a banded person, but I feel I am still

trying to get the flow. I have recently had a problem with reflux, it is being

treated, but not solved. I have moved my bed up about 8 " and am on Nexium now.

I don't PB at all. I am going to have my pouch and fill level evaluated in a

few days. I don't feel too tight and have not had a fill since November 2006.

So I'm not sure about the reflux problem.

Thanks! :-)

Reflux is always a danger sign, I'm afraid. It means something is

wrong.

First, be sure you are not eating any solids within 2-3 hrs of

bedtime. We often forget this, and it's a common reason for reflux.

The pouch must be empty when we lay flat, including for daytime naps.

Most obese people have a damaged valve at the bottom of the esophagus

that is supposed to prevent the stromach acid from backing up, but

doesn't. Many others have a hiatal hernia that also contributes to

reflux - this hernia is routinely fixed along with band surgery.

Reflux AFTER banding is a sign of band or pouch trouble, i'm afraid

(unless you're simply eating saolids too late) and should always mean

a complete check with a fluoro, and asap.

Nexium and the other meds help the symptoms, but do not find or treat

the CAUSE.

Reflux right after a fill almost always means the fill is too tight.

If one can eat ok, but just has new mild reflux, a small unfill of

0.1-0.2 cc usually relieves it compeltely. If the reflux is bad and

we CANNOT eat well, then more fill must come out.

New Reflux NOT associated with a new fill usually means pouch

dilation, esophagus dilation, a new hiatal hernia, possible band

slip, or other trouble. a fluoro is the only way to tell.

I believe we should all get one 2x a year routinely, if we do not get

them with most fills (as all the MX do and believe in).

These routine fluoros find a lot of early problems even before

symptoms start, while they are easily corrected.

Good luck - please let us know how you are. In the meantime, going

back to fluids only would be wise. Full liquids are fine - anything

blended smooth and then thinned. Meaty soups with beans are ideal -

good protein and fiber.

Last night I made a folder of links for apraxia sites...now you can go

to links and click on apraxia sites folder for the different sites to

learn more about apraxia, other speech impairments, therapy techniques,

some sites have speech products, toys, lots more good info on these

sites. I hope it helps some of you when you are trying to find more

information on a subject regarding apraxia and other speech

impairments. Two really good sites packed with good info is

Speechville and Cherab.

I also added a couple more links in the EFA links.

I will be adding more folders with other specific subjects that come up

a lot in discussions.

Again if anyone would like a link folder for a specific subject, please

let me know and I will try to gather info on it.
