Chronic Pain...Re: migraines

Luckily my migraines are mostly under control..I take a very small

dose of a blood pressure med called propanolol (Inderal) and it keeps

them at bay. When I get one I take Axert which is one of the newer

" triptans " ...I cannot take Imitrex, Zomig or Maxalt due to miserable

side effects...but Axert (almotriptan) works well and fast and I can

even take it at night as it doesn't keep me awake !

I was thinking the other day that I think I have enough illnesses

now...I don't need any more ! :) I counted up and figured out that

I have four chronic pain conditions: migraines, osteoarthritis all

over (especially knees and hands), fibromyalgia and of course our

lovely pancreatitis ! And just for grins and giggles I was diagnosed

with diabetes in January and while that is not a " painful " condition

it *IS* a PAIN to deal with ! :)

I am soooo sorry your Cassie has to deal with pancreatitis...but it's

a mixed blessing that you understand her pain and are her biggest

champion.... I diagnosed our daughter with fibromyalgia when she was

11 years old, our doctor agreed, but we didnot put it in her chart

right away...then it started affecting her school work so we had to

put it in writing to get her picked up by special ed in school.

It was a fight all the way in seventh grade, but once we got it

through their thick heads and she nearly failed 7th grade, they

finally picked her up...I would NOT let the issue go away...I think

they were fed up with seeing em after a while...

I'm so sorry to hear your hubby has those cluster migraines. MOre

women get migraines, but the ones men get tend to be worse than the

ones we get and more of them get cluster migraines than women do. I

knew a man on active duty who had to be put out of the military on a

medical discharge because of cluster migraines.

When I was young and dumb and working in the ER I would see these

women coming to the ER and I would think " there's no way a headache

can cause that much pain " ...I told you I was young and dumb ! Within

less than a year of that time *I* started having migraines and had to

quickly backpedal on my arrogant opinions ! :)

I forgot about the aching eyeballs with a migraine...oh my, yes !

Nice chatting with someone who knows too well !

Hugs, Jeannine

I used to take meds years ago for migranes they

> didn't owrk about 75% of the time so I taught myself relaxation

techniques. > It has helped me threw several surgeries, 2 C-

sections, and now I think many > pancreas attacks that I sought no

care for. I have also worked with Cassie > trying to teach her this

it helps with the $%^ & dr's wont give her anything for > pain.
