Guest guest Posted October 14, 2003 Report Share Posted October 14, 2003 To add my comments to those already posted on the above subjects: I tried a calcium channel blocker on the insistence of my doctor, and I too had increased headaches and no benefit. My naturopathic physician recommended taking more magnesium, which blocks calcium. It seems to have helped (and no headaches!) Nearly all fruit juices are sugar water. Even pure, fresh squeezed fruit juice. Regarding pain from watermelon that someone mentioned last week, my ND warned of gassy-type reaction to any melon. Sometimes its fine for me and other times I taste it all day long if I had cantaloupe for breakfast. My doctor prescribed nortriptyline for chronic pain and insomnia. It has worked wonders for the constant pain/pressure, but seemed to make the insomnia worse. My ND suggested melatonin, and I checked with my PCP who agreed, and it has helped tremendously. I take 3 mg of melatonin before I get into bed, and 20 mg of nortriptyline before I turn out the light. I rarely wake during the night (perhaps only once, once or twice a week) and am able to go to sleep right away, which had been a problem. As always, I'm not prescribing for anyone else, just letting you know what worked for me and perhaps you could check with your own doctors to see if they would want you to try what I've mentioned.
