Guest guest
I finally have my diagnoses. It is acute pancreatitis with pseudocyst drug induced. The specialist I am seeing said there is no treatment for it. Just try to let it get better on it's own. He said I can get off the liquid diet and try the low fat diet. HELP!!!!!!!!!!! The liquids cause pain what will the solids do. PLEASE anyone that has acute pancreatitis let me know how your doctor treated it. I think I have to look for another doctor. He did not even give me pain medication. Good thing the general practioner gave me some and I have been saving it for sever attacks, but that was a 10 day supply and this was almost 2 months ago. Please anyone who can answer me I am getting desperate.

Maureen, The physician who told you that there was no treatment for your acute pancreatitis with a pseudocyst was shamefully incorrect!! My induction into this disease was an acute pancreatitis attack with pseudocysts. My physician immediately prescribed hydrocodone for the pain, without hesitation. He also did a CT-scan of the pseudocysts, and a CT-guided fine needle aspiration biopsy of the mass in the pancreas to determine whether any cancerous tissue was present. And, being a surgeon, he immediately referred me to a Gastroenterologist. Did you have a CT-scan done to determine the size of your pseudocyst? When there is a pseudocyst(s) present, this is the standard treatment, to determine the size of the pseudocyst and establish what course of treatment is necessary. Generally, any pseudocyst over 6 cm. is felt to be at risk of rupture, and the doctor would determine what course of action to take, such as drainage or surgery. These steps are taken immediately after the pseudocyst is discovered, not months later, and you should not have had to go through two months of liquids only, without further investigation into the cause of your pain. If this doctor hasn't taken any of these steps to thoroughly check this out, and to provide adequate pain medication for you, I would suggest you see someone with a more aggressive and thorough approach. Pseudocysts cause a lot of additional pain. Most often the patient also becomes chronic, too, and requires ongoing treatment. I became chronic within one week of my acute diagnosis. I hope this information helps. With hope and prayers, Heidi Heidi H. Griffeth hhessgriffeth@... South Carolina SC and SE Regional Representative PAI, Intl. The pseudocysts are small and he said normal after having all the attacks. Did your doctor recommend a digestive enzyme or anything to help?? Maureen, Yes, I was put on Ultrase MT20's within the first few weeks, as soon as my lipase levels reached the normal stage. My starting dose was 3 with each meal. They helped tremendously with the after-meal pains, which were very severe then. If your doctor won't do this for you, please find one that will. It made such a difference to be able to eat again. Even low fat food tasted delicious after going through a period where I associated food with pain, and couldn't eat at all! With hope and prayers, Heidi Heidi H. Griffeth hhessgriffeth@...
