Guest guest
I can answer - I didn't know my daughter had CF still she was 6 yrs. old. She had a SWEAT TEST at 9 mos. and it was negative. At 6 it was NEGATIVE but they blood testing was developed and done due to the damage done to her lungs. My son was 4 and I was 7.5 months pregnant. Why do people have other kids? The others are 25% with each pregnancy. Many feel the odds are in there favor. Many want a sibling for a healthy child or just their child with CF. There are many reasons to have more and many reasons not to. I can debate both cause I have friends who chose NOT to have more, friends that had more to make sure 1 would LIVE...and other reasons that are different. I have learned not to judge for we don't know where people are coming from. I have been judged harshly at Hospitals, etc. when people see I have 3 with CF...I reached a point where I feel - what right do they have to judge me. Rosemary from New York with 3 children with CF - they are 12.5, 10, 6...... I coined the phrase " BREATHE DAMMIT " ; we have a dog we named -are you ready for this - TOBI after their medication!!! At least it wasn't albuterol or Coly...
Guest guest
I wasn't trying to judge anyone, I thought I made that clear in my email, perhaps not. I was just curious about the process that folks go through, when they know this disease runs in their family, on deciding whether to risk bringing another into this world that will undoubtedly suffer. I too have friends who have chosen to to not have more children, or have chosen to adopt. I also have another friend, who was pregnant at the time her daughter was diagnosed, and subsequently, the unborn baby had Cf as well. I understand her reason, as she didn't know her daughter had CF when she became pregnant the 2nd time. Anyway, I AM NOT JUDGING anyone, I am just a curious person, and thought that since we are all basically in the same boat, I could ask this question in a non-threatening way to this diverse group. Sorry if I hurt anyone's feelings! Amber, Nick's mom
Guest guest
your very wise gal. We are to judge, less we be judged as well. Kids are wonderful , sad when they are ill, but we don't think that is going to happen , we pray it doesn't , BUT we go each day, as you often say, ONE DAY AT A TIME. Bless you & yours. Did you ever decide what beach, etc. / call anytime. I can do some calls around if you need or want me too. LOVE & HUGS, GRANDMOMBEV Re: Why people have more than one! Guest guest
I have two kids, both boys, Wyatt is 7 wcf and Hunter is 3 no cf not even a carrier so I went from one extreme to the next. Anyways, for a brief time I thought of trying ONE MORE TIME for a girl but you know what, I probably won't have one! I'll probably have another boy and 2 is more than plenty for me!! I love them w/ all my heart but boys are nuts. So my decision wasn't all about the CF but that is a big reason they are so far apart. Otherwise they'd probably be a couple of years apart but since hubby is military and I'm a single parent a lot I chose to wait till Wyatt was doing great w/ his health until we got pregnant again. That does play into why we don't have any more. I don't WANT to have to do it all again ESPECIALLY if the child would have CF. I'm grateful it was my first who had it so I didn't have anyone to care for but him and I didn't have to work because it was really hard for the first 2 years. Anyways, just my story.
