Guest guest
A nissen is a procedure that basically takes the upper part of the stomach and sort of wraps it around the lower part of the esophagus, which is supposed to help support it so it opens and closes only when it's supposed to. When someone has GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disease), the valve in the esophagus doesn't stay shut, so the stomach acids surge back up. It's only supposed to open when we swallow to allow the food to go down, and then shut again.
