Hi everyone,

Just a note to say hello to the group. I must say I am doing

reasonably good at the moment. The pain is limited to periodical

attacks of 1 to 4 days every 2 to 4 weeks now. And when an attack is

taking place I can suppress pain more then a little with standard

medication such as codeine sulfur with paracetamol.

I found a pattern in the progress of the disease, maybe familiar to

you and maybe not. But I know I most certainly will get an attack

when :

1. I drink alcohol (which i do seldomly)

2. I am stressed and not eating properly

3. I eat sweet snacks or chocolate

4. I eat fat (that is really fat) food

Notice point 2, that one is tricky because it is an endless loop !

The way to break out of it is, in my case, to take away the stress

cause (if possible) and eat small amounts of food very very often,

increasing until food consumption gets sort of back to normal. It

helps when using liquid (breakfast type) food in the beginning.

Point 1, alcohol, in the form of a single glass of wine, during a

good meal does not seem to harm. Drinking alcohol in any form apart

from a meal is challenging the devil.....At least for me.

Point 3, well we all fall for it at times....

Point 4 is easy to avoid. And if I do eat fat food anyway (there are

moments nothing else is near) I flush it afterwards with milk. And I

use (again) breakfast type liquid food before going to bed.

In my office I have a water cooling machine. I noticed when drinking

lots of the water (lots is about 1 liter in the evening) it does not

do me any good either. Do you have a similar experience ?

Sometimes an attack occurs without any relation to the things I

mentioned in the shortlist. I read on several places of the Internet

(and of course in this group too) that not all attacks can be

related to obvious causes.....

Oh, I had a CT scan recently. With contrast liquid injection. I

guess the injection resembles what junkies call " the rush " . I did

not enjoy the experience however. The outcome ? Damaged pancreas

(they did not told me in what way however, and I forgot to ask) and

no blocking that could have been removed surgically.

I am gaining weight. It dropped from close to 80kg to nearly 60kg.

Now it is back to 63kg. Hope it will sustain.

OK, thank you all for the support during the last few months. Being

part of this group helped me pull through so far.

Regards, Danny.

Danny,

regarding point 2. You may wish to stop drinking alcohol at all, as,

over time, eventually, even cooking with alcohol can cause pain. I have

reached this point myself, and even though cooking is supposed to get

rid of all the alcohol, I get pain from eating any dishes cooked with

alcohol. Of course, I am at end-stage chronic pancreatitis, but, I've

found it is better for the pancreas to completely stop all alcohol

consumption and I know that a number of others in this group feel the

same. Just thought I'd pass on a tip too.
