Guest guest
Myrna, yes, you do need an anti-acid with the Viokase, however, it doesn't have to be nexium. I take Zantac with my Viokase and there is no weird taste with that. Maybe you can convince your doctor to switch you from Nexium to Zantac if possible. Kimber -- Kimber Vallejo, CA hominid2@... Guest guest
Myrna, yes, if you don't take the anti-acid, the enzymes break up too early. It basically makes the enzymes useless if you don't take the anti-acid. Three is not too much, depending upon which Viokase you are taking. I take Viokase 8. There is also a Viokase 16, which is a stronger dose of enzymes than the one I take. Check your bottle to see which you have. I take 8 with each meal and four with each snack . If I was taking Viokase 16, my dosage would be half of that (4 with each meal and 2 with snacks). I'm not sure if those symptoms are possible side effects of the Viokase. Check the side effects and such on Viokase on the website http://www.rxlist.com . That should be able to tell you. Make sure you include the number of the Viokase you take though (ie. Viokase 8, Viokase 16). I hope you find some way of getting rid of that taste soon. Kimber -- Kimber Vallejo, CA hominid2@... Guest guest
Myrna, no problem. I'm glad I could be of some help. If the Zantac doesn't work, there are other anti-acids besides Nexium, some even over the counter. Pepcid, Tagamet, and several others that I can't think of offhand, my memory is so bad these days. Best to look in the same place as you find the Zantac in the store, they should all be in the same place. Yes, you should be taking some enzymes ANY time you eat food, and many of us find it easier to eat smaller amounts of food frequently instead of 3 large meals a day. It's easier on the pancreas that way. I know I do it that way. I'm glad this information can be of some help for you. Kimber -- Kimber Vallejo, CA hominid2@... Guest guest
Myrna, as far as I know, the ones I mentioned don't have a bad taste as a side effect, but you can check them out on http://www.rxlist.com and check out the side effects listed to make sure. I take the prescription form of Zantac, which I believe is equal to two over the counter forms. Kimber -- Kimber Vallejo, CA hominid2@... Guest guest
Thank you for the reply. My doctor will give me a prescription for Zantac if I want one, I am sure. He just did not know if it would be any cheeper but maybe if I have to take two to be the same as one of the over the counter it would be cheeper to get a prescription. Does the over the counter say the strength. I guess you would not know. What is the strength of the zantac that you are taking? I will have to check that out. Also thank for the web site, I will go there and see what I can find out. Since I went back to taking an ant-acid I am sure feeling better and I think the taste is getting better again. I just stopped taking Nexium yesterday, so it might take a while. Guest guest
Myrna, I take 150 mgs. I do believe that the over the counter lists how many milligrams they are so you should be able to figure out how many of them equal what i take. I think it will probably be cheaper to get the prescription ones. It usually is at that strength. I'm glad the zantac is working and getting rid of the bad taste. Guest guest
The Nexium I was taking say 40 MG. and I was just to take one a day. The over the counter Zantac says 75 MG. What do you think? The 40 MG of Nexium is what the doctor gave me. The Previcid I was taking say 30 MG. I am just wondering if I need a lot less than you do. I am feeling really good. The taste is still not normal, but better. I keep hoping it will get all the way better and if it does not I am wondering if something else is causing it. I did have stomack pains when I went off of all anti-acids but now I am taking the zantac I feel really good. I really do appreciate all of you replys Myrna -- Re: Re: Previcid?/Nexium/Bad Taste-, Maureen Myrna, I take 150 mgs.
