Guest guest
I'm not an Australian Mum, just a US mommy, but what you have sounds like salt and baking soda. Are you using it for nasal irrigation? That sounds like what it is for. (You could mix this yourself, though, from non-iodized table salt and baking powder. I don't have the " recipe " but am sure someone else on this list would have it.) Or are you using it to supplement sodium in your child's diet? In that case, a little table salt would serve the same purpose. If giving it orally, the baking soda might just make her burp (or gassy.) Sorry I missed the original use for this? ~ > I spoke with a pharmacist yesterday who didn't know what salt powder was, but was able to find some and order it. The pharmacy called me today and verified that it was in and that I didn't need a perscription to pick it up. When I asked what the bottle said they told me " equal parts of sodium chloride and sodium bicarbonate " , " mix 2tsp. in 1 quart water for irrigation or use as directed by a physician " . Is this the same as your salt powder? I know one of you said that your pharmacy made their own. If your bottle doesn't say what specifically it's made of, would you call and ask them? I haven't picked it up yet, so I don't know how it tastes. I don't want to give it to Leila until I'm sure the sodium bicarbonate part is right. Thank you very much for your help!! > > Keeley > mom to Leila, almost 8m. wcf, and Hadley 2.9yrs. nocf > > P.S. Is salt powder dosed the same as regular table salt? And also, what's a cordial? The only cordials I'm familiar with are cherry cordials (as in the the chocolate covered cherries - my personal fav ) >
Guest guest
Thanks . Yes, I want to use it as sodium replacement. My baby nurses and still isn't very interested in solids, so we have trouble getting all the salt in she needs. The moms in Australia have talked about " salt powder " they use with their kids that is tasteless to slightly sweet. It sounds so much easier! They just mix it with a little juice and drink it. For some reason my docs don't know anything about it, but said it sounded great. I'm just trying to find some here in the States. I think you may be right about it being more a nasal wash. *sigh* I had such high hopes when the pharmacist said he found salt powder.
