Guest guest
Hi I am on a parenting list and a mother there just had her dd tested for CF. The test cam back with a result of 28. Should she be concerned, or does this result mean there is no reason for concern. Her daughter has had lung problems also, and is underweight. When my son wcf was tested, his result was 89 - and when my dd wocf was tested, her result was 8. I'd like to give her some advice. Thanks Wendi Mom to Keira (3wocf) and (18mos wcf)
Guest guest
In the sweat test, anything between 40 and 60 is considered borderline, anything under 40 is negative for cf, anything above 60 is positive for cf. BUT, there are several mutations that do not cause a positive sweat test, so if this mother feels that the child has symptoms of cf that can not be diagnosed as something else, she can request genetic testing for cf mutations. Genetic testing, also, is not 100% accurate, but may find two mutations and result in a diagnosis of cf even with the low sweat test score. Also, if the child exhibits symptoms of cf that cannot be explained with some other diagnosis, but has no identifiable mutations and low sweat test scores, there is still a possiblility that it is cf. If that is the case, she should get an appointment at a cf clinic and press for the doctors to treat the child as if she has cf and see if that improves her condition. If it doesn't, she will just have to keep searching for an explanation for the symptoms and find a treatment plan that works. ~ > Hi I am on a parenting list and a mother there just had her dd > tested for CF.
