Guest guest
I have heard that it is Morphine that causes spasms, but I have never had this problemand I do suffer from SOD. I think it is a individual thing. What works for one may not work for another. Guest guest
Debbie, I have never heard of the Methadone causing SOD to be worse or not give you as much relief. I can tell you that I talked with my local GI doc and he states that he has seen more patients get relief with the Demerol not Morphine. Morphine has a history of not helping the SOD pain thus it seems like it makes it worse since it does not help and the SOD continues to spasm. I also asked Dr. Lehamn about this in Indy when I went to see him. He told me that there are studies on whether Demerol or Morphine should be used and that he promotes the Demerol. I also go to an acupuncture physician who is a MD that works in the ER at a local truama center. She use to be a surgeron and knows all about SOD. She told me that she does not use Morphine for SOD, it is not effective. So that has been my experience with the Morphine research. I was told to tell all of my medical providers not to use it as a pre op drug. I am an RN and my boss is also an RN. They gave her Morphine as a pre op for her hysterectomy and the Sphincter went into big time spasms and she had horrible pain. She doesn't even have SOD either !They had to cancel her surgery till the next week. I guess it may work differently for different people, but I am not willing to risk it. Once you have that awful pain, you don' want it back again ! Lily from Ohio Morphine & SOD spasms Is it morphine and or methadone that causes SOD spasms in some people? Guest guest
Morphine has caused spasms for me also. The last time I had a major attack they were giving me morphine, it didn't even help with the pain. I have been told by several doctor's that Morphine causes SOD to spasm but sometimes you can't tell the idiots in this town. I have to tell them that Diluaid works for me. Demerol also works but I noticed one time that my legs got very restless. I hate to have a major attack and they give me morphine. I finally this past time got them to give me the diluaid because the morphine was making me worse. in Sumter, SC --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. Guest guest
Morphine has never worked to help with my pain...Demerol does a bit, but not completely, yet Dilaudid works perfectly. Problem is, there are some doctors that refuse to give it to me. Grrrrrr..talk about causing me more stress when that's the last thing I need...but have my letter now and so far haven't needed to go back to the hospital...been 3 months..a record for me...
