I'm not drinking any alcohol (and haven't been for over 6 months), My first attack was after having my gall bladder removed. I've got Vicoden PRN for attacks, which I take hesitantly because I am currently in recovery for alcoholism. I feel hopeless and helpless and I don't know what to do. I'm only 25 years old. " Congratulations on your six months recovery. That is a hard accomplishment. You bring up a subject that someone wrote to me about a few weeks ago, and that is about Addiction & Pain Management. There is a specialty in Medicine called an " Addictionologist " That is so good that you have a doctor that isn't making you suffer from fear of giving you narcotics. Even though people tell their doctor they are not an addict, if they are in recovery for alcoholism, they immediately remove any and all drugs. I am wanting to find an Addictionologist to consult the group because this comes up quite a bit. And, like air, if you have Pancreatitis, you need something for pain. (eventually). One of the most critical healing tools you have is you mental & spiritual self. I am glad that you came seeking hope, because to stay in a state of hopelessness is detrimental to your health. There is substantial research about the biology of hope and its affect on health and healing. I hope that by meeting other people that share your story, you will begin to feel less helpless. As they say about helplessness, there are no victims, only volunteers. And, it sound like you are choosing to take a proactive role to achieve the optimum level of well being. Karyn E. , RN, Exec.
