Guest guest
Hey Lily Thanks for the info. I am going to do some research also. I have to be very careful though, because my blood does NOT clot correctly. I have type I VonWillebrand's disease on top of everything else! So I have to be careful about stuff that might cause the blood not to clot. When I had the SVC syndrome with the port, I did not have a clot, the vein just collapsed. At the time that I had the port, instead of pushing Heparin through it several times a day, they were making me actually put the syringe in the line and pull back to pull the Heparin out. We think that doing that so much, just collapsed the SVC right at the point where the end of the line went into the SVC. Only thing anybody can come up with . It had to have been going on quite a while because I had lots of collateral veins taking over blood flow (as much as they can anyway) and they did venoplasty with balloons and its fine, no scarring nothing. No other reason for the collapse. Makes sense you could still push fluid through but couldn't draw blood, etc, etc. Never could draw blood from any line I had. Once in awhile but 95% of the time could not. We found out later that the advise to pull back on that syringe and take the Heparin out before giving another pain shot and then loading it with more Heparin to lock the line, should not have been given to us because those ports cannot take that kind of pressure several times a day. Hind sight, aint it great? Take care and thanks for the info Kaye
