Donna,

you aren't the only ones who don't loose weight. I'm in that category

too. In fact, at my last dr. visit, I had gained 5 pounds. Sigh.

Hi,

Just wanted to add that I stopped taking my enzyme pills in June to try

to lose weight and all I am doing is staying the same. For as low fat

as I eat, you would think I would be losing alot of weight. But I am

not. I have even been excersizing on my treadmill 5 miles a day at a 10%

incline with no weight loss there either.

And the lunch in, lunch out thing rings true with me too. No weight

loss there either. But I have been told at least if I have a bad

attack, I have the weight to lose. So I suppose I could look at it that

way, that it can be a good thing. :-)

Hello Sandy. The deal with weight loss is basically, if you want to lose

weight....burn more calories than you take in. Eating low fat isn't the

key, usually low fat things have higher calorie count, which makes it hard

to lose weight. So say you wanted to lose weight and you are walking on

your treadmill about 5 miles a day and with that you burn about lets say 500

calories. If you were to eat 2000 calories a day, or depending on your size

a little more or a little less, You would then lose weight because you would

actually be at 1500 calories a day, and if during the rest of the day you

were moving around and burning up all of those calories and plus some, the

weight would fall off.....There are many fad things to do which help lose

weight, but the only way I know to keep it off is eating correctly and

exercise. I hope that helps. I know you don't want to lose weight, but

thought I would pass on my thoughts about the low fat thing and diets

I hope this finds you and yours well

About a year ago I stopped taking my enzyme also because I did not like the

weight, but I really feel not taking the enzyme caused another attack, so be

careful. I also walked on my tread mill every day and really tired to watch

my diet, but also did not loose weight, so I understand where you are coming

from. but for me, I do not dare stop taking the enzymes again. Maybe that

was not what caused my attack, but I do not know what else.

Hi Myrna,

While I appreciated and had heard before what Mark had to say about

weight loss and counting caloric intake, I was eating less than 1500

calories and 25 grams of fat a day and was burning 750 calories a day

through excersize and the weight wasn't coming off. There were days my

treadmill said I was burning 1050 a workout! And still, through all of

that, I was only losing 1/2 to 2 1/2 inches and not weight. 6 months

straight of doing my routine! And yes, I do know the fact that muscle

weighs more than fat. I am also aware of the math factor in all of

this. It doesn't seem possible that through all of that I wasn't losing

weight, but that was the truth of the matter. I was doing the math, but

evidently my body had other ideas.

One of the reasons I left my specialist was because when I complained of

this to him, he told I was eating TOO much and told me to not eat

anymore than 800 calories a day and no more than 10 grams of fat a day!

I don't believe anyone can safely and nutritionaly live on that a day.

I now believe that a body is born to be a certain way and no matter how

hard you try to change it, it will only change so much. My body likes

where it is at and so I must learn to accept it and love it. I have,

after all, lost nearly 60 pounds in the last few years. This was 3

months after I had my gallbladder out and about 1 year before being

diagnosed with Chronic Pancreatitis. I was working hard at the gym to

achieve this. About the same as I am doing now with quite different

results.

Thank you for commenting to me on the same subject. It is always nice

to know that your not alone in something.

I agree it is nice to hear from, others that have had the same experiences

you have had. I have also just learned to accept my weight. I have not

worked at it as hard as you have but to hear how hard you have worked with

no weight loss, makes me feel even more, I just have to accept my body and

learn to love it and do the best I can with it. I am also almost 60 and have

had 7 children c section so I guess I just have to be glad I can do all I

can do.

Hey Sandy. I hope I didn't offend by writing what I did....It is never my

intention. I too have a problem with not being able to lose weight. If you

are a diabetic, they may explain why you can't lose weight. It is a very

common problem. One that I deal with also.

I hope this finds you and yours well

Mark,

I am not diabetic so no explanation there. And no, I wasn't offended by

what you said. Truth being, I had heard that before from other people

and 2 doctors. And all they say is if your really doing the math, then

the weight will come off. Even Dr. Phill has his new weight loss

challenge going and made the same comment. It's so not always true.

I am here to say that you CAN do the math and still NOT lose weight.

Sometimes a body just wants to be the way it is no matter how hard you

try. I had an aunt who was at least 450 pounds most of her life. I

watched her eat like a bird and excersize like crazy and still no weight

loss. Diets pills, diet fads and true diets did nothing to help her.

Fianlly she found a doctor who said to her, " Lesly, bodies are

predisposed to be a certain weight when we reach maturity and there

isn't a whole alot we can do about it. " That didn't stop her from

trying to lose weight while she was alive, but her body size never

changed.

So I suppose I must just learn to accept and love my body. The problem

with being over weight (even 10-15 pounds like I am) is that the doctors

never seem to take you seriously when talking about your weight issues.

And part of the problem with taking so long for me to be diagnosed

with CP was that I was overweight and I kept being told that if you have

CP there isn't any way you can be overweight. The last specialist

doctor I saw pretty much said the same thing. He said a CT Scan in

December 2002 came back normal so I am " cured " now of CP and because I

am overweight I must be healthy and can not be sick. What a load of

malarky!!! Obviously I have not been back to this doctor for care.

Thanks all for writing and letting me know that I am not alone in my

weight loss struggles. And it's nice to know that even when you are

doing the right thing with dieting, it doesn't always work for a number

of reasons. My GP says I look fine to her and if I can learn to be

happy with myself and love my body, thats half the battle. She said the

medical industries standards for weight limits and height doesn't take

into account real body frame and real sizing. I think shes skinny and

would love to look like her and she let me know that even by medical

standards she is overweight as well.
