Guest guest
Hi all, I spent all day Saturday in the ER with an acute attack of pancreatitis. I sat there 5 hours before I was even seen!!!!!!!!!!! I was having one of the worst attacks I have had. I couldn't sit, stand, anything. I had the " belt " like symptoms all the way around me and into my shoulder blades. I knew it was a bad one. The doc finally came in and drew some labs. They couldn't get an IV in (twice) so they just said to " forget it!!! " . I got no IV fluids and they gave my 50 of Demerol and 25 of Phenergan IV. Didn't touch the pain. My labs came back and my Lipase was over 4,000!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I know my amylase was between 2,000 and 3,000, but he focused on the lipase. I didn't know what to do for me. He gave my Phenergan suppositories and told me if they didn't control my vomiting to come back and they would admit me!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I did vomit twice once I got home, but was able to get it under control (I really don't know how!!!). Can I please get a copy of the ER letter that some of you carry with you? Also, what is the difference between Amylase and Lipase? Any and all information would be greatly appreciated. I am still on clear liquids and still have tremendous pain. My doc increased my OxyContin to 50 mg b.i.d. with OxyIR for breakthrough. I am really struggling. Thanks. Hope everyone else is doing well. My thoughts and prayers are with you all. Guest guest
, I can't believe what I was reading. The last time my A & L levels were 2000 and 5000, I was admitted for 9 days! I go to the ER and tell them I am having chest pains that feel like a heart attack and am seen almost immeadiatly. I also have a note from my doctor on a RX paper stating my diagnossis and what treatment works for me and that she should be contacted. Go to the hosptial records department and ask for copies of the ER paperwork for that time. I have every paper that has been done on me since I startedbeing sick. It is important to have your records with you at home so you can have them when you need them. Best of health to you. Guest guest
, there is a copy of my letter in the files section of this groups Yahoo site. Just sign in to yahoo(using the login and password you got to sign in and join this group), go to the website http://groups.yahoo.com/group/pancreatitis . On the left hand side there is a menu. Click on Files. Once that page comes up, Click on Sample MR. There are two files, one from Ellen Grove and one from me. The one from me includes a copy of the letter I had my doctor sign. She has a copy of it in my medical record and I carry it around with me in case I ever need it when I'm in the ER with pain or acute attack. If for some reason you can't get the file, let me know and I'll email you a copy privately since you can't send files with posts to this group. Kimber -- Kimber Vallejo, CA hominid2@... Guest guest
I was under the impression that if amylase and lipase levels were up extremely high, the hospital was is not allowed to release you home until they are at an acceptable level...Although I'm treated no good if they don't rise, if they are high, they always admit me until they come down. Guest guest
When I read so many of these posts I just feel so thankful for how I have been treated. I go in with pain and they have an I.V. in as soon as they can and pain meds. I have never had to wait. My heart really goes out to you because I know how bad the pain is. Guest guest
, I'm absolutely agast that they would release you with amylase and lipase levels still elevated like that. Our hospital here won't release a patient until the levels are close to normal. Please take the time to make up a medical report for the ER, it could save you so much hassle, and hopefully would pave the way for more appropriate and caring medical treatment.
