Guest guest
Hi - I have Sphincter of Oddi Dysfunction in addition to my pancreatitis. I had several ERCPs where my common bile duct was cut and it's not a very invasive type of surgery. It's outpatient and I was home a couple hours later. There is a slight risk of an acute pancreatitis attack afterwards, but that didn't happen to me and it did help that problem tremendously. I've also had a sphincterotomy on my pancreatic duct and so far (one month) it seems to be helping so I'm keeping my fingers crossed. No one can tell you what to do as far as surgery goes - that's a very personal decision - just letting you know my experience. I wish you all the best whatever you decide - Anita
Guest guest
Hi, I also have SOD along with Chronic Pancreatitis. I had my sphincter of Oddi cut in 2000. I was told by my doctor that once cut, it need never be cut again. I do still have problems with it, but not nearly as bad as before the surgery. I did have a severe pancreatic attack after the surgery that hospitalized me for 9 days. But I would have that done again if need be. The pain from SOD is terrific. And I did/do have a great deal of relief from it now. Sandy
Guest guest
Hi! That's great that your SOD only had to be cut once, and that you are feeling relief from it. Mine is alot better now, but that's after several cuts. It kept either closing back up or getting scar tissue. My doc gave me nitroglycerin tabs to put under my tongue when I got one of those attacks, which relaxes the smooth muscles and it really helped, along with Stadol nasal spray when it got really bad. I wonder if alot of others with pancreatitis also have the sphincter of Oddi Dysfunction. The two ducts are so close together. I know more about this than I ever wanted to, and I'm sure you do too!! Hope you're doing well now. Take care - Anita Re: I saw the doctor - need advise (SOD + pancreatitis) ERCP Hi, I also have SOD along with Chronic Pancreatitis. I had my sphincter of Oddi cut in 2000. Guest guest
Hey all, the Nitro under the tongue did not work so well for me but Levsin under the tongue did LOTS better. I would not be able to survive my SOD if it was not for my Clidinium every 6 hours ( yes I even have to set my alarm in the middle of the night )and my Levsin. It has kept me from the dreaded ERCP so far. Still keeping my fingers crossed too ! Does not mean that I don't get the " pain from the sky " as Kay calls it upon occasion, but the levisn really helps.
