Guest guest
--- Hi Crystal- Im going to try to give you my opinion w/out making this long. I have been a pre school teacher in both private and corparate centers and they both were the same some newer or cleaner than others but it really dont make a dif. I recommend that you look in to a licensed home daycare if possible. Preschools just have to many kids in one room no matter what the ratio is and as a teacher I have to say its not the teachers fault, its just that there is too many kids to care for at once. In a class of 0-24 mo. its usually 4 to1 ratio and even if theres 2 or 3 teachers its immpossible to care for them the way those parents would exspect. Ones changing a diaper and ones feeding a baby and ones getting one to sleep, wheres the other 9 babies? usually shareing bottles binkies or slobbery toys. Kids in daycare are just about always sick its spreads like wild fire. They say its good for them that it will build up their immune system. Which was the case for my 4 yr. whos been in & out since she was 6 weeks old. She is fine. She did have several ear inf.during her 1st yr. though, so thats why I decided to breast feed my son knowing he was going to be in day care, but it didnt help any he was sick the entire 7 mo. he was in there intill I quit when they said they think he has cf. So for a healthy baby its ok but not for a child w/ cf. In a class of 2 yr. is a ratio of 10 to 1 and sometimes 12-1 and thats nuts in a potty traing room. I know that our kids will some day have to go to school but by then they will know not to share those mouthpiece toys or drinks and to wash thier hands ect... ( WE HOPE) haha but toddlers are still learning and that teacher cant watch all those potty trips and runny noses that didnt get wiped w/ a tissue instead with a toy- that another child is just waiting to put in his mouth. My biggest problem in my 4-5 yr. class was getting them to not eat out of the serving bowl w/ thier own spoon- at lunch- they forget they want to be sure to get those seconds. It was hard for me cuz I worked there and on my breaks Id see so much I wished I hadnt when popping in on my baby who was in the infant class. He would be drinking someone elses bottle or getting thrown up on by this poor walking baby who had a bad case of reflux and thats just the beggining, I could tell you much more gross stories it was no wonder he has had pnemonia so many times!!! I just think home centers are more personal. If you find one you can trust. I hope I havent made things worse. Guest guest
Crystal, I have had in home daycare since I went back to work with her being 8 weeks old. was not diagnosed CF until she was 18 months old. I found an at home daycare ( she turned her 3 car garage into the daycare) that is wonderful. She has watched all 3 of my daughters and they are intelligent, interact with other children well (they are 12 and 9) and were way ahead when they started school.(both are honor roll and honor students and looks like she is going to follow) When was diagnosed, did some " housekeeping " . She instigated stiffer rules than what she is required by the state. When other children are sick, they are not allowed to get past the breezeway. She has made a lot of adjustments just for me. I have had for 11 years as daycare provider. She does medicine, vest, breathing treatments the whole thing. I am very lucky to have a wonderful provider/friend. My advice to you is thoroughly check out all options and find something to your liking. Look for a degree in child education, state license, what ratio to provider to child, sick kid rules. I have brought a lot of business from friends and family because she is so professional! It depends on which state you live in if you qualify for help in paying for your child care because of CF. Just ask lots and lots of questions. I hope that I have helped a little. Thanks Traci mom to 3 great girls. (the youngest who will turn 4 on April 28th w/cf) childcare consideration....HEEELLLPPP please.. Good evening, morning to all-- My son is will be two on June 2. I have posted -lurked and posted and mostly lurked. Thank you to everyone on the list who has provided me with such useful information. I gave up a dream of mine to stay at home with my son when dignosed at birth, that opportunity is no longer avaiable to me. With that being said, I am now considering putting into childcare. Only because of legal " stuff " with father. has only been hospitlized to take down his ostomy other than at birth for two months ( you see he was not even suppose to live long enough for me to hold him) He pulmnology doctor has told me that he is her healthiest cf baby. I follow all the rules everyone takes off shoes santizes at door before they come in--you guys know the drill. I carry clorox wipes everywhere, the list goes on and on-- take in to the docs first thing in the morning before the " germs get there " (we live an hour away from doc and peditrician) at drop of a hat to make sure nothing is going on etc.etc we have been scared of feeding tube possibilities, had 4 bronchs, and two infant lung function test in which he lungs where healthier than normal babies. I am TRULY blessed by all of these things. NOW--childcare-how long should I continue to stay at home with ? BTW- is invloved in kindermusik and gym and playgroups to obtain activities with other children buuuuttt under my supervision. HHEEEEELpppp..what are your chilcare experiences-recommendations-thoughts- I feel lost and afraid, I know a lot of you have dealt with this issue, please give me any insight you have. I am very fortunate to have you folks to turn to and for my son who has been a dream come true. Thank you for your time.
