Guest guest
Hi everyone, I had my 5th ERCP in 3 months yesterday. The first of those ERCP's they found a polyp in my pancreatic duct (I have a hereditary illness, Familial Polyposis) which was 1 in a million not likely to be a polyp there, but pathology results confirmed my luck at the odds (sarcasm) to be that 1 in a million. Then the third ERCP, at MD Cancer Center in Houston, they biopsied it and told me it wasn't a polyp but a desmoid tumour, the same that I have growing on the outside of my pancreas, liver, spleen, small intestine, and on major blood vessels, making them all inoperable. They removed as much as possible, but it was impossible to take all of it out. Then yesterday, my local GI did another ERCP to change the stent I had put in on the 3rd ERCP. My duct had opened up yet again, so they kept the stent out (which happens every time, then 2 weeks later, it usually closes again)and he went further in to check on the tumour and it has completely gone. There is no record ever of one of these tumours disappearing on it's own without any medication, chemo or radiation to aid in shrinking them. Finally God is on my side for a change. Now it would be wonderful if all the others will do the same, but I do know that will never happen. While it is good news about the tumour disappearing, where one has grown, more will follow in the same place, and these have a high chance of becoming malignant, and it isn't a good place for the doctors to get to them. My GI thinks perhaps this tumour may have been the cause for my pancreatitis, as well as the duct collapsing at the opening. He congratulated me and said he hopes it doesn't repeat itself again. Me too, but not having much luck, I can't get my hopes up too high until i've gone a few months without any problems.
