Rob,

Great minds work together they say. The project is already underway. The PAI

is putting out a Nutritional Guide and Recipe Book. I am editing it, but would

some of your expertise with graphic design. We are going through a print on

demand format and it has to goo to press camera ready. We have another

member who works in writing and publishing who is also working on this project,

of

course along with the members who have submitted the recipes.

Go to the files section on Yahoo and look under nutrition. Then click on

recipes. Also, if you go to the Yahoo database you will see database templates

for

recipes. I want to transfer the files over to the databases right now.

Let me know if you want to help on the project.

I would be interested in contributing. Like you I have a vast library of

no-fat, lowfat cookbooks. And I do use them, just not to the extent many would.

I modify many recipes to suit the tastes of my family as well as reduce the

fat even more in many by changing the ingredients. We have found that many no

fat recipes lack flavor and therefore need spicing up so the are edible.

Anyway, let me know, I'll help

Yes, if there is something I can do to help, please let me know. I'm curious

about your printing process though. If you are preparing the book digitally,

you should be able to do a print on demand digitally and go right from file to

press without having to produce camera ready art. The other question would be

which type of program are you using for layout? I work on PC, but lots of

designers work on Mac.

Send me an e-mail at telebit@... if you think there is something I can

help with.

Patty and other,

If you want to contribute to the cookbook add your recipes to the current

file we are collecting. Go to: <A

HREF= " http://groups.yahoo.com/group/pancreatitis/files/Nutrition/Recipes/ " >

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/pancreatitis/files/Nutrition/Recipes/</A>

If possible try and include the nutritional information with the recipes.

There is a government website that will calculate it for you. I will try and

locate it.

I wrote up some general information on nutrition, explanations about

carbohydrates, fats, proteins, vitamins, and minerals. This along with digestion

anatomy and physiology 101 will also be included in the book.

If you want to write up a short story to go along with your recipe to make it

more personal you can do that. We can also accommodate color photos of your

creation, as well as the chef!

It should be fun!

This is such a cool idea ! I love buying cookbooks for Christmas

gifts ! Are we going to be able to get it in regular cookbook

format, or only on CD ?

Jeannine,

The cookbook will actually come printed on 3 hole punched paper bound in

plastic wrap, with a 3 ring binder that comes with it. It will be 5..5 X 8 in.

It

will also be available on CD or as an e-book. That way, it can be added to,

and the recipe can be taken out when it is used. We could put a plastic sheet

protector with it, to put the recipe in so it won't get dirty. When there are

revision or new recipes, they can be downloaded, printed and put in the

notebook.

If that is too expensive then it will come as a soft back cover with a

plastic spiral binding.

If you or anyone wants to share anything they would like to see the book

have, let me know, i.e., the format of the book, how the chapters are divided

up.

Do you want traditional formatting (Main meal, salads, appetizers, deserts,

etc.). Or do you have a different creative approach? Maybe it should be

formatted on food types, i.e., low fat, low protein, low carb, sugar free,

vegetarian,

high protein, etc.?

Why don't you take a look at your current cook books and give it some

thought.

As I mentioned before, there will also be a large section on " Nutritional

Healing, " " Nutrition 101. " There will be a section on vitamins & herbs

I would like to include a section for and by kids.

I would like to move on this and really see if we can make this happen. It

would make all of us feel proud.

To give me an idea of how many people are interested in contributing let me

know an informal hand count, and also let me know how many recipes you would

like to contribute. I need to get a preliminary page count, and how many photos

you would have. Personally, I always prefer a recipe that has a picture of

what I am making.

If you just want to write up some things that help you around the kitchen you

can do that, too.

I have 3 or 4 I'd like to contribute, they are the one'sCassie really likes.

I also have several tips to contribute to. I had a ruff last week or so and

I'm finially comigng around. I have some catch up around here to do, my own

medical testing to get done and a trip to Cassie's GI to prepare for. SO it

may be a week or two till I sned them . I have a digital camera and will take

pictures of what I send.

Patty,

That is great that you have some of Cassie's recipes and tips from you. The

deadline I am looking at for receiving material for the book is July 1, 2003.

That should give people time to pick some out, take a picture of the results

before taste testing them. Let me know if you need help calculating the

nutritional information. I still need to locate that website. The most important

thing

is to know what you are looking at sending so we can do a preliminary layout

for the book, we can fill in the specific data later. I will tentatively

reserve four pages for you. When you are deciding how you want to lay out the

recipes, etc., remember to use an 8 X 5.5 " page, with a 1/2 " page margin.

Now, to you, Patty, I was backlogged on my email and only recently saw your

post about your own symptoms of Pancreatitis and such. I am so sorry to hear

about that. Don't consider yourself excessively worrying. I support people

intuition about how they feel and any concerns they have regarding their health.

It

won't hurt to work it up, and a lot will hurt if you don't, but should have.

Gosh, Donna and Cameron have started a special subdivision of Parent and Child

with Chronic Pancreatitis. (PC/CP) Yikes. I do hope that it is as minimal as

possible. Good luck with the medical appointments.

When you go see Cassie's GI, see if he/she wants to make a comments regarding

Pancreatitis nutritional considerations or general guidelines that we could

use as a quote. Or not, as the case may be. That might not come across right,

maybe we should wait until we have a little more substance to the book, and

then seek out some professional commentary. You might just think about if one of

the GI's/Nutritionists might be someone that would support this project.
