I also have pitting edema. Mine is caused by my long-term pain

medication (I take Methadone). My doctors have put me on a diuretic and

potassium (because Lasix - a diuretic - can cause low potassium levels).

It has helped greatly. Mine isn't as severe that it is causing my brain

to swell, but it is bad enough. Some days it's so bad that I feel so

stiff that I sometimes think I'm turning into a statue. What pain

medication (if any) are you on? You might want to check to see if any

medicatons you are taking could be causing this (check out

http://www.rx.list.com for side effects and contraindicatons of any

medicine you may be taking). You really need to be seeing a doctor about

this. Does your county have any programs for those in low income (if you

aren't working or recieving much disability payments) or disabled? That

might help you with the medical bills and prescriptions. I know my

counties out here in California, have many programs for low income people.
