Guest guest
In the usa, orphan drug status is given for a drug that is used to treat very few people who have a disease not at all common, but where it is thought that the difference in ourcome might be significant. In the usa it is a federal guideline of the FDA, granted by congress, and fortunately, still in effect. It means that there shall not be discrimination in bringing new drugs to the market to help even the medical minority. It is a rather odd term, but refers as much to the condition and the patients as to the drug itself in terms of definition. Now that I have REALLY mucked it all up, I shall depart, Cheers! n Rojas
