Guest guest
Ralph, I am not diagnosed with chronic pancreatitis but I have been diagnosed with some kind of pancreas disease - maybe the acute relapsing type (?) (I do not have signs of CP - only symptoms). The doctor ruled cp out by doing an ERCP with a pancreatogram and an endoscopic ultrasound. My understanding is that this is a very, very sensitive way to rule out or diagnose CP (the gold standard is to do a biopsy, but not many MDs advocate doing this). An MRCP that I had in May, suggested that I have pancreas divisum and the ERCP / EUS that I had two weeks ago confirmed this along with a stenotic minor papilla. This is consistent with my chronic pain of pancreatic origin, weight loss and generalized " sick " feeling. As far as lab tests are concerned, mine have been relatively normal exept for elevated liver function tests over the last year or so. But I was told that that had nothing to do with my pancreas problems - that it was a result of my SOD and functional biliary block. I had one documented case of acute pancreatitis three years ago and possibly one other two years ago.....otherwise, I have just had the symptoms of pancreatitis, fairly constant over the last three years. MRCPs, CTs, USs and numerous lab tests have all been negative for chronic or acute pancreatitis. The only way that I was recogized to have pancreatic disease was to see a GI doctor who specializes in that - the " run of the mill " GIs that I saw previously hadn't a clue, and never considered it in my case. So that is my story of how I got here. Laurie
Guest guest
Hi Ralph, I was diagnosed with AP but continued tohave pain and diarrhea especially after eating. I continued calling the doctor until he decided to schedule me for an ERCP. It was then that I was diagnosed with CP. I hope this is helpful. Guest guest
Ralph, I was diagnosed with CP in 1996, right after I had my gall bladder taken out. They think that I had pancreatitis since I was a young child and didn't catch it until I was almost 26. Just this past year I was diagnosed with diabetes type 2 but am not on meds for it as of yet. I have sphincter of Oddi dysfunction. I have a feeding tube right now and since there has been a change in my doctor's appt. I will be going back to see the doctor on the 20th. Hope things work out for you and my prayers are with you. Nobles Sumter, SC --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. Checked by AVG anti-virus system (http://www.grisoft.com). Guest guest
This is directed to Ralph, I think you are looking for guidance at where to being with this subject Pancreatitis, ask your family Dr. to refer you to a GI. It is possible for your family Dr to have labs done such as amylase and lipase. There are some people that have elevated levels and others don't. Once you are referred to a Gastroeneterologlist they may want to do an endoscopy and an ERCP to evaluate pancreatic structure along with the biliary tree. A physician trained in these types of proceedures will be able to determine if your symptoms are related to a pancreatic process, although it is possible for a physician to diagnosis according to history, it is depending on the Dr. Hope this helps you. Guest guest
Ralph, I posted a message on the board in regards to the Gastroenterology and internal medicine departments for the hospital at NH...Did you not see it? or have you tried them? They might accept a self referral from yourself, or ask your PCP if she could refer you to them. They at least might be able to direct you to a GI who could give you a second or third opinion...if not, I shall find my last post to you and give it to you again.
