Guest guest
Kimber, You said that your insurance only provided one glucometer per life per member. Unless someone has a government type of work history, then when they get disability they will qualify for Medicare A, which an option to buy Medicare B. I chose those options, as well as keeping my private insurance policy. The good news about Medicare B is that they not only purchase a new glucometer every year, they promote it, feeling it is more cost effective to have a freshly calibrated, new machine yearly. I have actually obtained a listing of everything that Medicare A & B do cover, and am taking full advantage of all off these preventive services to minimize my complications and improve the quality of my life. I would like to choose a Medicare B home delivery service for my Diabetes supplies. Does anyone use such a service? Who? Is there a difference? I was delighted to learn that for qualified Diabetes, they pay for an orthothotic consult annually, and provide 3 orthotic shoes and custom made orthotic sole inserts a year. They actually pay for a pair of shoes and an insert every four months, but the local providers encourage you to get all three at onetime, since it is recommended that the shoes be rotated. If the orthotics change before the end of the year, they will replace them for free. Qualified Diabetic means they have or are at risk for pressure sore development by certain criteria, which most meet. It is interesting that Medicare also pays 100% for a home A!C test quarterly. There is no requirement to be homebound. Just food for thought, as they say. Karyn E. , RN Exec. Director, PAI Indianapolis, IN The PAI serves as a means of support, information, and advocacy. Guest guest
Karyn, thanks for that information. I will certainly keep it in mind if I win my disability application (I certainly hope I qualify). I didn't know that Medicare covered so much stuff for Diabetics (since I've been diabetic over 20 years I should qualify for a lot of the stuff). Good news that they'll pay for a new meter every year. Kimber -- Kimber Vallejo, CA hominid2@...
