Guest guest
You should send a letter to the superintendent of the school district you are in and request an IEP or 504 plan. If you have a social worker at the clinic you attend, they should be well informed on how to go about this whole procedure. you can and should stipulate any and all enzymes, breathing treatments, etc... that could or are needed during the school day. Also insist it be written into the plan that the school is to send out a home teacher IMMEDIATELY, when your child is on home iv's or is out of school for more than 1 or 2 days. Even though your child may only be sick for 3 days at a time, several small absences over the school year will add up and the child will fall behind. Aslo, on the CFF website there is a pamphlet you can download and hand out to each of your child's teachers as well as the principal, health aide, nurse and secretary of the school. I also sit down before school starts and have a general meeting with all my son's teachers. I go over CF in general, as well as specifics pertaining to my son. Also, have bathroom privileges, water by your child's side, etc.. written into the 504 plan. I also insist my son be placed in the fron of the class at either end of the row. This way he is not in the middle of the class being coughed on, etc.. from the other classmates. Oh, also insist they change out the heating, a/c filters for your child's classroom on a monthly basis, and make sure the room is very clean, i.e. dusted and vacuumed a couple of times/week. Insist they keep anti-bacterial soap by the wash basin in the class room, as well as kleenex easily accessible by your child. one of the best means of illness prevention is to teach your child to wash his/her hands before and after eating, playing oin the playground. be firm and insistent about everything being in writing in the 504 plan. If they give you a hassle, you will have better means for correcting them if it is all in writing fromthe beginning. I hope this helps you, Amber nick's mom
