Angie~Fl. Dear Angie, I do remember you, and I'm so glad that the baby who didn't want to wait was okay. Weight gain has always been a problem for me. One of the things I've found that helps most is pancreatic enzyme supplements. Are you taking them, or could you ask your doctor to prescribe them for you? There are several over-the-counter enzymes that are sold in health food stores, but I've found that the ones that work the best are available by prescription only. Creon, Lipram and Viokase are all good types to take. You would also need an antiacid medication to take with the Viokase brand, if that's what your doctor prescribed. You could also try fish oil supplements which can be found in any large pharmacy. They contain essential Omega-3 fats which are " good " fats for our health. I take those on a daily basis, along with all my other pills. Another suggestion is Ensure supplemental drinks. They are quite high in fat, but easier to digest if you are also taking pancreatic enzymes. I hope some of these suggestions help. With hope and prayers, Heidi Heidi H. Guest guest
Angie, I remember you and wondered how you were doing. Have you tried increasing your carbohydrate amounts when you eat? That might help you add weight without adding fat. It always works with me, though I don't try to add weight, it just seems to want to add itself to me. You could have some of mine and I wouldn't miss it any. Also, are you taking enzymes (Creon, Viokase, pancrealipase, etc.)? If not, you might want to see about taking some as they help people with CP to absorb more nutrients from their food as many of us have problems with malabsorption.
