Guest guest
Mark, You wrote, " I hat a shot of cortisone in my left knee and that has helped my bursitis and I just received one in my right knee today. " I wish I was that brave, but I don't know how anyone is able to have a needle stuck in any part of your anatomy. You would think by now I would be immune to the pain that the needles bring, but...not. I am terrified of the pain. And it keeps getting worse. This makes managing my insulin injections a mess. I actually tried acupuncture, the needles were so painful, I never got through a treatment. I even had a hypnotherapist go with me the second time, but it didn't help. The whole " just a bee sting " thing may be true, but I think bee stings really hurt. I commend those who have a low pain threshold, because it definitely offers people more options. Guest guest
I am not sure how many are aware of a topical prescription cream called EMLA it is a lidocaine type of drug that is applied to the injection site and covered with a tegaderm ( the little plastic thing that they put over an IV to keep it covered but it is see through) this drug is applied and the tegaderm is used to cover it. This is left on for about 15 minutes and it is a topical anesthetic to help with the pain of needle sticks. My husband had an article recently comparing the difference between this drug and an over the counter type of drug I will see if I can find the article and find out the name. slady@... Guest guest
I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but EMLA has been pulled from the shelves so to speak. I went to pick up a script my doctor called in for me for Emla, and when I got to the pharmacy, they told me it was unavailable...reason being that the lead content in it is too high and unsafe for children, so it is not allowed to be sold anymore. I did ask if there was a similar product and was told that there wasn't. I would be really interested in the over the counter similar product...does anyone know the name of it? Thanks,
