Antihistamines and decongestants WILL dry out secretions and make them thicker and harder to dislodge in people with CF. Cough suppresants can inhibit the important movement of mucous. However, I think it becomes a bit more complicated and the pros and cons have to be weighed differently when a person with CF also has significant allergies ... different doctors then have different opinions. Guaifenesin is an expectorant that can thin mucous, making it easier to dislodge and can be a little bit of help with congestion and cough. I believe it is safe for most people with CF. Robitussin is one brand but only the PLAIN Robitussin (not the varieties that include decongestants and suppressants such as Robitussin DM). M wrote: >...
