Guest guest
I can not speak for my daughter, because she is hyper all the time and it is hard for me to tell if is because of the albuterol. However I do have asthma. On bad days, when I have to use more than one or two puffs of albuterol at a time, I get the shakes, I can feel my heart racing and I twitch. I reminds me very much of the horrible " on speed " like feeling I got once when I took some herbal diet pills. Wendi Mom to Peyton 3 wcf > Does anyone else use an albuterol inhaler for their child in place of albuterol neb treatments? MY daughter's doc prescribed an inhaler for us to use if we are pressed for time or if she is not co- operative with the neb. We only use it rarely but WOW what a difference in hyperactivity! I had to use it this morning (as something is wrong with the neb cup) before school. We got there and she did nothing but run around the yard before school started. I told one of her teachers because I didn't want them to think she was just in a mood or something. The teacher's son has asthma so she understood why she was so hyped up. Does anyone else see this reaction when they use the inhaler instead of the neb? I know when was little before DX she used the syrup and wouldn't sleep. Just wondering > > >
Guest guest
We use an inhaler and spacer for JC's albuteral and have never had a problem with hyperactivity. I doesn't seem to bother him at all. Angie P. (Ma to JC, 3yo, wcf) speaking of Albuterol and hyper > Does anyone else use an albuterol inhaler for their child in place of albuterol neb treatments? Guest guest
I thought that the albuterol was affecting my daughter too. I talked it over with her docs and they said she would adjust to it over time. When she had been using it for 4 years and there was no real change we went another route. She is now identified as having Attention Deficit Disorder. She is currently taking Strattera (a new non-stimulant ADD drug) and it is working wonders! I am definitely not a proponent of medication first for Add but after working with her since she started school with many different behavior plans and teacher / teaching styles, we finally resorted to meds. She is much more focused and determined now. I can also tell immediately when she is off of it. Best of luck finding out the root of your problems. Kathy G. Guest guest
Cody is also on Strattera now--what a DIFFERENCE!!!!!!!! The first few days on it he was very, very tired in the afternoon, but that side effect seems to have gone away now. He is doing SOOOO much better in school--he is very smart (surprises me quite often, especially in math!), but had SUCH a hard time keeping his focus. His brother and sister are the same way, and so am I. I did terrible in school until 6th grade, when I had a teacher who understood me, and helped me learn better habits. I still have a lot of trouble staying focused on a task, and have a tendency to go from one thing to another and I get bored VERY easily. From that point on, I was a straight A student. My daughter is still struggling, and last year she was on the A-honor roll her last two semesters, now this year, she's having a tough time getting a C!!! I talked to her about it, and she says she just can't " keep her thoughts straight " , and she's always " forgetting " everything. To this day, at age 14, she can't remember more than one thing at a time that I tell her to do. I have to put it all down on paper, in the order she needs to do it. For example, I asked her to clean the bathroom--she's done it many, many times, but each time, she forgets how!! This is not just the " teenager " in her speaking either. She will scrub the tub, but forget the shower walls; she'll clean the sink, but forget to put things back in place; she'll put the cleaner in the toilet, but will forget to clean it! She starts a job (such as dishes), she'll get 2 or 3 washed, then get distracted by a cat rubbing her leg, and will walk away, and when I ask her why the dishes aren't done yet, she always says " Oh, I forgot! " She has been like this all her life! DJ is less like that--he can stay focused on an active task, but more sedentary tasks (such as schoolwork) are harder for him to focus on--he hears a sound, and he loses his place. Cody is much more like a--he bounces from one thing to another, and often gets really frustrated. I don't blame him--I know how he feels! This Strattera has been great for him so far! His teacher has noticed an immense difference, and he hardly has any homework anymore, thank goodness! Well, I've rambled long enough! Guest guest
It's a new drug for ADD and ADHD, that is a non-stimulant, and therefore doesn't have, most importantly, the appetite suppression side effect. As we all know, that's the LAST side effect we want our kids to have!!!!!!! For the first few days, Cody was pretty sleepy and didn't eat much due to a kind of upset stomach, but both of those were short-term side effects.
