Guest guest
, yes, sometimes diabetes starts with hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) and not just with CP patients, but with anyone who can develop diabetes. You might want to have a snack about 2 hours after breakfast (most diabetics and hypoglycemics do) and make sure it is something with protein if possible. I know that's hard for us since protein can cause the pancreas to react, but since you are having problems with hypoglycemia, you need protein, NOT carbohydrates. That's because the protein with even out the bloodsugar, while the carbohydrates with raise the bloodsugar really high and then drop really low a short time afterward. You might also want to have some protein with your breakfast. If you've been eating a carbohydrate breakfast, that would explain why your bloodsugar dropped so drastically two hours after eating breakfast. If you don't already have a glucose monitor, I'd suggest getting one. I personally prefer the Lifescan OneTouch machines - I recently got the OneTouch UltraSmart and I love it. It does more than just take your blood glucose (in 5 seconds, believe me that's fast). It also helps manage all aspects of diabetes. (check it out at http://www.lifescan.com/products/meters/ultrasmart.html ) Most diabetics and hypoglycemics each about every two hours or so to keep their bloodsugars as level as possible. I only know this from experience as I've been diabetic for about 22 years. As for if your pancreas is shot, diabetes means that you can no longer produce insulin, but you may still have some function to your pancreas. How much, I don't know. You'd have to talk to a doctor, probably an endocrinologist to find out. -- Kimber Vallejo, CA hominid2@... Guest guest
I have diabetes and my pancreas still isn't shot....and as far as I know, if you have low high blood sugars then you most likely have diabetes...69 isn't to bad.....it may in fact be normal for you to have your blood sugars run that low.....I am a diabetic and run mine about that when I can...It leads to less problems down the road...but of course you have to watch them closely...you don't want them dropping to low,. I hope this finds you and yours well Mark E. Armstrong NW Rep, PAI www.top5plus5.com casca@... low blood sugars > Hi all, > > Hope everyone is doing well this week.
