Guest guest
The reason its advised to keep people away from each is Cross Contamination. Our CF Center had a picnic once. People were invited based on culture. My cousin thought that was racist. I said " No, not that kind of culture - a lab culture " . At our Center they keep us seperate in waiting rooms, elevators, etc. at first I thought they were nuts but now I realize the implications. Rosemary from New York with 3 children with CF - they are 12.5, 10, 6...... I coined the phrase " BREATHE DAMMIT " ; we have a dog we named -are you ready for this - TOBI after their medication!!! At least it wasn't albuterol or Coly...
Guest guest
Kari, People w/ cf get infections that don't bother " normal " people. Two in particular are pseudomonas and b. cepacia. " Normal " people can be exposed to these and not have a problem, but because of the mucus in the lungs of people with cf, these infections can move in and set up housekeeping. They can cause serious health problems. And the main source of infection is from other people with cf. That is why people with cf have to be careful around each other. Some people don't feel outside activities are a problem and only worry about close quarters indoors. We choose to keep JC away from others w/ cf if at all possible. The longer we can keep these bugs out of his lungs the better his longterm outlook. I wish it didn't have to be this way. I think it would be good for kids to have friends with cf, especially as they get older. Of course if there are other family members with cf, it's not possible to isolate them. Guest guest
Hi, We have always been told to follow the three ft. rule. If you are outside stay 3 ft from others with CF. If you are inside near others with CF wear a mask and stay 3 ft apart. Many people with Cf know this rule already, so it shouldn't be too hard to enforce. pwcf around pwcf > Hi I posted 2 hours ago but it never made it, so again I ask-why is > it that pwcf are told to stay away from others wcf? Thanks Kari Because people with CF can give bacteria's back in forth to one another. I have two kids with CF and that is why we have a hard time getting rid of psuedomonas because once you get rid of it from one kid the other ends up getting it. Now we treat them both so we get rid of it. Deb A
