Guest guest
My daughter has run a low grade fever for 7 weeks. She has been tired on and off and I know her teeth are bugging her. CBC and chest x-ray were normal. She's been on antibiotics for about 2 months. The first was cleocin for a suspected lung infection. She developed an intestinal infection as a result of being on that one - c. diff. She was on Flagyl for the intestinal infection and Keflex for a suspected G-tube infection, but she's all done on antibiotics now. Her neck lymph nodes are a bit swollen. Her throat culture done on May 9th showed 4+ normal flora (by the way - what's that?) and 1+ MRSA. She had MRSA in January and was on IV Vanco for a month, then cultured negative for it twice. I was bummed to see it back again. Could just 1+ be causing her fevers or is it just teething? Also - she's been sweating more than normal. Do children with CF sweat more than kids without it? Thanks for your help! ~a mom from Minnesota
Guest guest
Hi, I can answer for my experience with the sweating and the answer is yes. My daughter sweats more than the other kids her age. Kids with CF get dehydrated much easier because the loose so much salt but I have noticed that my daughter breaks a sweat much faster than other kids, too. Normal flora is just the stuff that everyone cultures to some degree. It shouldn't have much bearing on the CF. Fever in 6 month old for 7 weeks... My daughter has run a low grade fever for 7 weeks. Guest guest
Normal flora is just what it sounds like. Everyone carries bacteria in their mouths and throats and it's normal, so 4+ normal flora is fine, not a problem. The MRSA is probably causing the fever, I am no doctor but it is just a guess. I hope they find something to help your baby. love, M
