SAF seeks bilingual student for paid Sowing Seeds for Change

Fellowship Program!

Applications Due: Oct.1, 2006

The Sowing Seeds for Change Fellowship is a ten-month leadership

development program in which college and graduate students from

universities along the East Coast will become leaders in the

farmworker movement. Through an international delegation, training,

campus organizing and a summer field placement, Fellows will build a

more informed and active campus community for farmworker justice and

be part of a strong network of community organizations and students

working towards farm labor improvements.

The program includes the following:

1. Delegation to Guatemala (November 18-26) to study Spanish,

understand what corporations' lower prices really mean for Latin

American workers, meet pioneering organizers and take part in the

struggle for global economic justice,

2. Campus Organizing (spring 07) coordinating events/activities to

raise awareness of farmworker issues and farm labor campaigns on your

campus,

3. Three leadership development trainings (in Feb., June, and August)

to learn about current farmworker demographics, farm labor campaigns,

and prepare for your summer field placement,

4. Summer Project (summer 07) to work with a farmworker organization

to address the needs of the local farmworker community.

Fellows receive $3000 stipend, travel to and food/lodging at the

international delegation and domestic leadership trainings, and

potential academic credit
