Applications Due: Oct.1, 2006 The Sowing Seeds for Change Fellowship is a ten-month leadership development program in which college and graduate students from universities along the East Coast will become leaders in the farmworker movement. Through an international delegation, training, campus organizing and a summer field placement, Fellows will build a more informed and active campus community for farmworker justice and be part of a strong network of community organizations and students working towards farm labor improvements. The program includes the following: 1. Delegation to Guatemala (November 18-26) to study Spanish, understand what corporations' lower prices really mean for Latin American workers, meet pioneering organizers and take part in the struggle for global economic justice, 2. Campus Organizing (spring 07) coordinating events/activities to raise awareness of farmworker issues and farm labor campaigns on your campus, 3. Three leadership development trainings (in Feb., June, and August) to learn about current farmworker demographics, farm labor campaigns, and prepare for your summer field placement, 4. Summer Project (summer 07) to work with a farmworker organization to address the needs of the local farmworker community. Fellows receive $3000 stipend, travel to and food/lodging at the international delegation and domestic leadership trainings, and potential academic credit Fellow Qualifications** Commitment to farmworker justice Previous experience in campus activism, community volunteer work with farmworkers, OR academic coursework on farmworkers Bilingual-English/Spanish (or language of local farmworker population) Junior or Senior Undergraduate OR Graduate Student Attend a college/university in the following states: Tennessee, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, New York, Georgia **During selection of Fellows, preference will be given to students from farmworker families.
