Guest guest
The Acapella device (www.dhd.com) was recently discussed on the cfparents list (thank again, Bill). It uses a combination of both the PEP (positive expiratory pressure) and Flutter principles for airway clearance. One of my main concerns in the past was that it could not be boiled for easy and thorough cleaning. The company recommended just soap and water cleaning. I was recently in touch with a company rep and learned that they have introduced the " Acapella Choice " . The advantage of it is that it can be taken apart for thorough cleaning AND can be boiled or put in the dishwasher. It seems there may have been some confusion on the list (or maybe it was just my confusion). I thought someone said it could be used in any position which I took to mean laying down or whatever. In fact, the instructional video says one should be sitting up, with elbows resting on a table, but that the device itself can be held in any position. ... in other words, the device does not have to be on a particular angle but the patient still should be sitting up straight for proper airway clearance. Just wanted to let you all know the latest that I found out. I think we will look again at this device now that the new model is available. If anyone has been involved in, or come across any clinical studies on the device, please let me know. M
