Guest guest
If he has a psydeumos - I still can't spell that one after 7 years of it, when ever there is illness they want to suppress it because sometimes other things can stir it up - that was the reasoning I heard and since a lot of the treatments we do I feel are to maintain good health (reasonable good health) (some kind of health) it makes sense. Watch the color of the snot and for increased coughing, etc. Trust yourself you know Liam best!! Rosemary in NY with 3 children (12, 10 and 6) with CF. Guest guest
HI all I have a head cold and have had mastitis in the last 2 days, great combination!! NOT. Anyway I think Liam has caught my cold, first real one. I am not coughing but he is and real bad and sounds terrible. I have never had experience with a child with a normal cold so I dont know how long a cough lasts for or what even happens with a child who gets a cold. He has a hard time breating through his nose, and he likes a dummy for bed so its a differcult one, he wants to suck but he cannot breath out his nose good. So can somone tell me what I might expect for a normal cold in a CF baby please. I really would like to avoid antibiotics if possible. If I take him to the pediatrition he will automatically put him on them. So can someone explain and tell me hat to look out for if he does actaully need antibiotics, he has not got any green snot that I have seen. Thanks for your help mum to Liam 8 months CF

Guest guest
Hi , Yes, CF kids can get colds and not end up on antibiotics. That said, in my experience with my daughter, every time she got a cold before she was 2 yrs. she ended up needing antibiotics. Having the little ones on antibiotics is no fun (most of them gave horrible yeast infections and diarrhea), but when she didn't go on them right away she ended up in the hospital. If it were me I would have to call the doc for antibiotics right away. Any cough that is chesty and wet can be an infection (or become one quickly). Green mucus is one sign of infection but it might not be green, yellow is a sign too. Also look at how much he is sleeping/crankiness, for us this was always a good way of telling if was getting sick. If she was sleeping more than usual but crankier than usual, I knew we were headed for an infection. Good luck and I hope he feels better soon. ----- Original----- From: & O'Neill To: cfparents ; crataegus Sent: Sunday, May 11, 2003 5:30 AM Subject: chesty cough LIAM HI all I have a head cold and have had mastitis in the last 2 days, great combination!! Guest guest
Rosemary, this cracked me up! But it's as hard to spell these bugs as it is to get rid of them, isn't it?! But here's how I remember the correct spelling: Pseudomonas First, I break it up phonetically as: Sue do Monas (yeah, use your imagination on that one! LOL) Nest, add a P in front of Sue Then, reverse the u and e (so it's eu as in the sound " Ewww, it's pseudomonas! " ) The spelling that trips me is the aeruginosa part of pseudomonas. I always manage to bungle that, even when I try to remember it by thinking: " ae rug in (the) nosa. " I used to always forget where the " e " went until I remembered that aer is like the British spelling for aeroplane. So I think of this as: aer = air = oxygen. Hey, anything that works, right? (Happy Mother's Day to you!) Kim If he has a psydeumos - I still can't spell that one after 7 years of it,
Guest guest
Just my opinion, but I try upping albuterol nebs and pats during a cold for 2 days. Then I take him in to the dr. if I see no improvement. -Lenora >HI all >I have a head cold and have had mastitis in the last 2 days, great >combination!! NOT. Guest guest
(()) is 20mos and was diagnosed in January. Since that time, he has been on antibiotics twice. Both times, it started as a cold, and then moved to his lungs. I took him to the dr. bc I am sooo paranoid about lung damage. I'm not really sure how long a chesty cough can go on without causing any damage. I would do what someone else already suggested - increase the chest therapy for a couple of days, and if it doesn't get better/or if he has trouble breathing - go to the dr. I know it sucks to have such a young child on antiobiotics!! Hope things get better soon.
