Guest guest
For my soy allergic son, I get Dr. Ron's Vit E. Its pretty pricy. For my little apraxic guy I just buy natural alpha d-tocophorol from Long's drug plus Jarrow brand Gamma 300 (Whole Foods). Unique E, Soy-free Mixed Tocopherols, 180 capsules $49.50 Start out with 1, give it a week or 2, then go to twice a day. If you are seeing results with one...adding the 2nd dose will increase the benefit. - > First off, I would like to say that I am fascinated by the Vitamin E > discovery that's been going on here and would like to try it with my > daughter. Guest guest
You don't really know how much Vit E d-alpha is in this, since it is giving the value for it along with the nixed natural tocopherols. Look for something that is 400 IU d-alpha Vit E. Nature Made, which you can find in drug stores and many grocery stores and is frequently on sale for buy one/get one free, has a 400 IU d-alpha Vit E, which we use, and also uses that one. That is all it has--just the 400 IU d-alpha. You can buy a separate Gamma E, such as the 300 mg., from Jarrow, eg., which is what uses. Basically, her information would be that you probably wouldn't want to give less than 300 mg per day of the Gamma. NOW brand makes a High Gamma, 300 mg, as well--you can check the internet for more. Some people like to give the E and the Gamma separately. So these are a couple of the brands that have been mentioned here and that we have used, as well. Or check out Vitaminworld.com or a Vitamin World store if you have one. They have a High Gamme Tocopherol which contains 200 IU d-alpha Vit E and 200 mg Gamma E per capsule. They put this stuff on sale from time to time, and has alerted us to these sales. So, you give two capsules per day to get a total of 400 IU of the E and 400 mg of the Gamma. brought this one to our attention, and a lot of us are using this. Up to 1500 IU d-alpha Vit E is totally safe, according to , so this is fine for your dd at 45 pounds. Weight and age don't seem to make a difference. Yes, all the different combinations out there make it really confusing. So, you might want to start her on 400 IU Vit E, then increase to 800 per day, then up to 1200 per day, etc., depending on how she does, how much progress you see. You can start giving the Gamma right away, with the 400 IU Vit E, or you can wait a bit until you raise it up to 800 IU. I hope I haven't been too confusing here, and I hope this helps. Suzanne [ ] Vitamin E Question I apologize if this has been answered previously, but I have been trying to find alpha tocopherol & gamma tocopherol Vitamin E for my dd with SID & I am so confused. The seem to have different combinations & levels of various tocopherols. When I do a search for them it seems that the gamma has the alpha in it too. Should I give the gamma with the alpha blend only or should I still add in the alpha as well? How much do I give my dd who is 45 lbs? Thank you for your help. Guest guest
I have started giving my son 400 iu d-alpha. The bottle states that it is a " mixed tocopherol " and lists gamma and delta under " other ingredients. " Is is still necessary to supplement with gamma? I suspect the vitamin contains only trace amounts of gamma since it does not list an amount per serving.
