Hi all, well it looks like we are in for the long haul, I am having teacher

problems, she isn't taking cystic fibrosis serious, I feel like everytime I

talk to her she disregards what I have to say, Now when started

school i prepared a whole book on cf and even got that book for the teachers

from grandmom Bev so she would be informed, but I don't think she read it.

okay here are some examples, the first day I met her which wasnt to long a

go, 2.5 months, she made the comment " We have never had one of those before "

ok she was referring to as being a cf child, boy was I surprised,

is in a other health impaird class through an elementry school,

Theres more, has a diagnosis of adhd and she clearly has stated that

he does not have it, she has gone as far as telling me she will videotape him

in the classroom setting to show his behaviorist how he interacts in the

classroom setting. ok you think thats bad, she called me at home and bluntly

asked if me and my husband were having marital problems because kids act out,

I enformed her, we have had behavior issues with Matt since he was 1 1/2

years old and that we did not have marital problems, she further contined to

tell me that we need a therapist to come into our home . Now even before

this conversation, I had informed her that we are on a waiting list for

intervention services and that we are doing what is necessary for our child,

I have his doctors and his behavorist and cms backing us up on that. His

teacher then went and discussed my sons situation to other teachers and

staff, I was so upset I cried, Ok has been out sick all week, he went

back to school today, now we are working on revisting his iep because his

medical accomodations were not put into the iep well one of the accomodations

is to wipe down the computer keyboard and mouse and you know what she said,

why are you going to do that, he s going to touch toys, well hello if I can

prevent some germs spreading thens its a big deal. She said doing those kind

of things will make him feel different, uh hello it will keep him healthy. Now

don't get me wrong is far from being in a bubble, I just feel that

there are some things that can be controlled as far as spreading germs.Well

she went on to tell me that cannot miss school just because he has a

cold, Right there that showed me that she is clueless. I told her there will

be accomodations about his attendence in his iep and she said well he still

will need to pass the class, I told her understand but at the same time there

is an accomodation for that, after so many days of missed class the child

gets work sent home, so I feel she is just not taking me seriously, I have a

iep family and student supporter and she has advised me to talk to the

assistant principal about her behavior, I have already called but have yet to

here from her so we will see. Has anyone ever dealt with this? I feel like I

am in the principal office when I talk to her, heck Im 28 years old,

I am a teacher and I am appalled to be one when there are people like

her around!

The Law is on your side, she must accomodate the IEP and it's

mandates. Get EVERYTHING you want in that document and make sure you

keep track of all conversations, notes etc. Visit with the Assistant

Principal as soon as you can. I'm curious how old the teacher is....

Relax -- you are doing the right thing. Keeping your child healthy is

number one. A year before our son (wcf) was born my husband had a cf

child in his 7th grade class. The kid was absent an extended amount

of time and then underwent a liver transplant. When the 7th grade

team met to discuss the child one of the older teachers was very

nit-picky about late work from the cf child and not accepting certain

things based on a time issue. My husband yelled at the woman -- how

could she be so unkind when this boy might not even make it 8th

grade!?! The cf child is now in 9th grade and doing quite well. He

passed 7th grade, albeit barely, but he did because the teachers were

made to realize the circumstances. So, keep going -- You have the

support of two teachers right here (and how ever many more are on

this listserv).

Hi,

All this should definitely be brought to the attention of the principal (bypass

the assistant) but also, let the principal know that you will be bringing it to

the attention of the school superintendent. (and do it) This is not behavior

that is acceptable. It is not usually legal to discuss specific children with

other staff/faculty without parental permission. The only person that needs to

be involved would be the principal/asst. principal. You should get them

involved.
