We ended up using duck tape and that seems to work. mom to Y Kiersten Lee 2-13-98 w/cf Y Y Natasha Rose 2-24-00 w/o cf Y Y Trevor 10-18-01 w/o cf Y Y Noelle 11-29-02 w/o cf Y
Guest guest
How long has your son had the mic-key button? They need to be replaced about every 6 months. If you haven't had yours for that long, perhaps the particular unit you have is defective. If you are expeienced and have an extra button at home, first try replacing it and see how it does. Save the old button though, then if hte new one works, notify the agency you received it from and return it as defective. my son has had a mic-key button for over a year, we just replaced the original a few months ago, when the old one fell out (our cat bolted out the door and hit his tubing, thus pulling the whole thing out!) No big deal, I just opened a new button packet and inserted into his stomache, then hooked him back up. If you aren't comfortable installing a new one, go to your GI doc and have them do it. Guest guest
We have a slight problem with the connection tube for Adam's mic-key button. The medicine port keeps popping open at night. When I check on him I'll find his blanket and bed soaked. Sometimes it's so bad I have to change his pjs or even give him a sponge bath in the middle of night. Not to mention the food he loses and the air that can get his tummy. He's a very gassy boy normally, he doesn't need MORE air in there! Is there any glue anyone knows of that we can use to glue shut the medicine side? I don't want anything that might dissolve and get into his system, we tried tape but it doesn't work with the odd shape and angle. He's doing so much better now with the nighttime feeds and I HATE when he misses some! I wish I could adequately describe to everyone how beautiful, happy and laughing he is when he gets his 2 cans of pediasure at night. He's absolutely gorgeous and so much fun! Guest guest
Buy the sports tape (almost like cloth and VERY sticky). We get the 1/2 inch width and go over the top and wrap it. We fold the tip of the tape over itself so we have an end to grab onto when we have to give more medication. Works perfectly. If you can't visualize it, we can take digital photos and send them to you. --mom to 2 yr old Ashton www.babyfergie.com > We have a slight problem with the connection tube for Adam's mic- key > button. Guest guest
Hi, Are you talking about the " extension set " ? That is the thing that you hook up to the MicKey, that then gets the end of the bag. If this is what you are talking about you should just throw it out and get a new one. You should change these extension sets every so often anyway. I guess it depends on how many feeds you do a week. (this is what I was told to do by the home healthcare company, you can always ask what they recommend) We do about 6 feeds a week and I try to change the extension set every other week. The Pump bag should be changed after every 3rd feed and the MicKey button every 6 months. (I didn't know about the button getting changed so often until had had hers in for about 10 months.) The doc's office did the first change for us and I have done the rest myself or with help from my hubby. Good luck, Mic-Key G tube question We have a slight problem with the connection tube for Adam's mic-key button. The medicine port keeps popping open at night. Guest guest
I'm sure the tape thing will work, but why not use a new set? I know when ours get old, the med port gets loose and this happens. Is it happening because the extension set is getting kinked in the night when the little ones turn over? that is the only time this has happened for us. Hope the tape workd if using a new one doesn't Re: Mic-Key G tube question Buy the sports tape (almost like cloth and VERY sticky). We get the 1/2 inch width and go over the top and wrap it. Guest guest
It is easy to tape the med side down you have to wrap the tube as if it ia a bike handle bar making sure the tape overlaps when you get to the top just reverse the wrap and go back down the tube. We dealt with that for over 4 years with Rebekah.BeckyB
Guest guest
I've already gotten out the second one and now it's popping open too. Is there a way to just get the tubing and not an entire MicKey kit? We go to the cf clinic again May 16th. I'll bug them about it too, but I wanted to see what other parents said too. Thanks for your answers and ideas. Crystal mom to Adam 14mo wcf, le 3yr nocf > > We have a slight problem with the connection tube for Adam's mic- > key > > button. Guest guest
Yes, definately. We replace just the tubing and not the button on a weekly basis. We get Mic-Key extension sets in packs of 5 from our medical supplier. Guest guest
That piece of tube between the MicKey and the bag set up is called the " extension set " you should be able to order them from the homecare company who is providing the formula and other g-tube supplies. I'm thinking that it is popping because it is getting kinked up when your little one sleeps/ rolls around in the bed (?) the med port is probably popping because of the pressure building up behind the kink. I really haven't had this particular problem, since we do not do night feeds with . I didn't like the idea of having her hooked up without supervision. The only time I agreed to a night feed was when she was in the hospital sick. I'll just leave it at this, after that experience there was absolutely no way that I would be convinced to allow it a second time. Either my hubby or I are awake and supervising when gets a feed. I know it works well for some people but not for . Re: Mic-Key G tube question I've already gotten out the second one and now it's popping open too.
