I have not called them about it yet either. Maybe it takes a while for there body to get use to them? I don't know but we just started about 2 weeks ago so I am going to give it a little more time to see if there is a change. If you find out anything different let me know. Guest guest
Not sure what kind of enzymes is on but my son was on 3 Creon 5 at age 1. His stools have never been formed but he has little malabsorption. He is on a powder enzyme now at age 2 (he is g-tube fed). It may take a few days for the enzymes to take effect and show a difference. Are you adding calories and fat whenever possible? Oil or butter in solids, rice cereal in pureed foods, concentrated formula, etc? Good luck. > Hey all, > > was just increased to 2 enzymes each feeding. Guest guest
My son is 14months and just now weighs 16 lbs. He is taking 3 Ultrase enzymes each feeding. His stools are not well formed in fact they are horribly runny when he's teething! I hate teething! (Hated it with his older sister too.) Most of my son's increases in enzymes were for the same reason you list, little weight gain. But I don't recall the stools being too much different due to enzymes. Ours was usually due to prilosec increases. I know I didn't help at all, other than I believe this is another one of those issues where you see what's " normal " for you pwcf. Guest guest
Morning Michele, I am an " old " , lurker member of the CF Parents list, my name is and have a 2 years, 10 month old boy with CF. Regarding our own experience, a high dosage of enzymes may cause same effects as a too low dose. Have you been increasing 's enzyme intake gradually, or was it sudden? I understand that he must be taking his enzymes with applesauce or something similar. If his change was drastic, and your experience was not too good, you may want to try to build up his enzyme intake little by little, say, 1/4 capsule at a time, and see what happens. Of course, I think it'd be good to check this issue out with his Doc or nutritionist, if you feel like doing so. This is the way I've done with Agustin, when he's needed some enzyme dose upgrade. I remember, when he was around 5 months old, he used to take, say, " n " bottles a day. So our scheme was more or less as follows: (let's suppose n = 6) he was on 4,000 lipase units per bottle, was upgraded to 8,000 lipase units. Week 1 Bottle 1: 6,000 lipase units Bottle 2: 4,000 lipase units Bottle 3: 6,000 lipase units Bottle 4: 4,000 lipase units Bottle 5: 6,000 lipase units Bottle 6: 4,000 lipase units Week 2 Bottle 1: 6,000 lipase units Bottle 2: 6,000 lipase units Bottle 3: 6,000 lipase units Bottle 4: 6,000 lipase units Bottle 5: 6,000 lipase units Bottle 6: 6,000 lipase units Week 3 Bottle 1: 8,000 lipase units Bottle 2: 6,000 lipase units Bottle 3: 8,000 lipase units Bottle 4: 6,000 lipase units Bottle 5: 8,000 lipase units Bottle 6: 6,000 lipase units Week 4 Bottle 1: 8,000 lipase units Bottle 2: 8,000 lipase units Bottle 3: 8,000 lipase units Bottle 4: 8,000 lipase units Bottle 5: 8,000 lipase units Bottle 6: 8,000 lipase units And I had to check what happened in between. This gradual upgrade led him to better absorption in the end, and did not cause too much trouble in the process. Perhaps this " plan " might also fit 's requirments. Or you may also notice that he could probably need 1 1/2 enzymes per meal, instead of 2 ... Hope this helps! Mom of Agustin, 2yo wcf > Hey all, > > was just increased to 2 enzymes each feeding.
