Hi ,

we had to wait two weeks for the result, the procedure wasn't painful

at all (but your bladder has to be full). We went to a specialized

clinic, where they do CVS every day. And please make sure that you

have a sitter for Ashton afterwards, because you have to rest to

lower the risk of a miscarriage.

Good Luck!

Torsten

P.S. No new arrival here yet :-))

Hi

I had CVs done with my second son. We found out he was a carrier. We were

elated to know he didn't have CF. What a relief. My husband actually cried

when we found out. I was yelling and he came home from work bawling. I

couldn't believe it.

The test itself wasn't that bad. The full bladder was the worst part as

someone else said. My husband wouldn't go to the bathroom because I

couldn't. I though that was so sweet. I had my test when I was about 11

weeks pregnant. My results took longer than average because first, they lost

my blood and then they had too many of my cells and not enough of the babies

so they had to let it grow longer. I think It took a total of about 4

agonizing weeks. But it was worth the wait to know the baby was only a

carrier.

We too had decided if the baby had CF we wouldn't ;hav gone through with the

pregnancy. A very difficult decision and not right for everyone.

Wishing you a speedy wait and negative for CF result.

I got results in 10 days. We found out that our third child does have

CF and decided to continue the pregnancy. We really just wanted to

know. I hope you get good results!!!! :)

  • 2 weeks later...

Hello ,

I had a CVS with my fourth pregnancy (April 2002), a year after my

daughter's CF diagnosis (April 2001). It was an unplanned pregnancy

and I was extremely stressed. I had read about possible limb defects,

but the doctors told me that that was not a concern as long as the

CVS was done at 11-12 weeks, and I had to put my trust in them. I was

also stressed because I was told that occasionally they cannot

perform a CVS: the placenta has to be in an accessible location, as

they must not puncture the sac, so if the placenta is lying against

the back wall of the uterus, a CVS cannot be performed and a person

would have to wait for an amniocentesis. So many unknowns and no

control over them! My CVS procedure went very, very well. It was done

at the only hospital in my province that performs CVS, so the doctor

was very skilled. It was not so painful and was very quick (I think

about 30 seconds). It was done at exactly 11 weeks, and I got results

back 2 weeks later (baby is a carrier only.) I took it very easy

after the procedure, to minimize risk of miscarriage, and arranged

for child care; especially, I did not lift children or heavy objects

for a day or so. One thing you may want to consider: when you go in

for the CVS, the ultrasound technician may assume that you want to

see the image of the fetus; if you don't want to, you may want to

state this in advance. I really feel for you! I know it's hard not to

think about it all while you're waaaiiiting, but try to pamper

yourself when you can (baths, books, walks, music, or whatever may

soothe). I hope all goes well for you!
