Guest guest
All these docs, and I do mean tons. Keep wanting to put me on tricyclic antidepressants. I can not take those. Why? Well they dont believe me either. I am a full figured woman, and I am hyper.. to coin both phrases. When I take antidepressants; I become dull, flat, lifeless, no drive, certainly no sexual drive, forgetful, bland and apothetic. They say that cant be; but hence it is. They have put me on all; I give each the therapuetic recommended trial and all I end up is more lifeless. My question. What is the point of antidepressants any way. I undestand the antispasmotic effect; but hell; I would rather be full of life and pain then lifeless completely. Any body ever have this problem? Atypical should be my moniker. Guest guest
, I am sitting here thinking: " what is wrong with your doctors?!?! " Have they bothered to read the PDR? Do they understand how tricyclics work? Do they know why newer, safer, and less contraindicated medications were developed? Of course tricyclics flatting your mood. Of course they kill your sexual drive. Indeed they interfere with memory. And yes they will make almost anyone gain weight. Don't get me wrong, for the right person these are valuable drugs. I am sure they hope that they will assist your pain management. But the newer drugs can help with that too. With all the SSRI and other newer medications, why won't they offer you more choices? Long before I had any pancreatitis, I suffered from anhedonia, depression, and a touch of generalized anxiety disorder. I was generally able to cope without meds but I had several darker periods where I was helped greatly with medication. I have used and had good success with prozac, zoloft, and celexa. I went off of prozac after making a big improvement. A couple of years later though a divorce darkened my days and the drug of choice then was zoloft. Now zoloft did help but for me it removed my libido. At the time that was a good thing though. *smile* Then when my pancreatitis got ugly and I got depressed I tried Celexa. Celexa has very few contraindictations and seemed the safest option. It worked fine. I went off it after my total pancreatectomy because I wanted to get off as many meds as possible. I only take enzymes, insulin, and prevacid now so I attained my goal. Anyhow (sorry for the rambling), debate with your doctors on this. I think they need to know your feelings, and they owe you an explanation as to why they feel an old tricyclic would be a better solution than a newer safer med. It is your body. There are options that are sound. You are entittled to them. Go get 'em! Bert > All these docs, and I do mean tons. Keep wanting to put me on > tricyclic antidepressants. I can not take those. Why? Guest guest
> , I am alot like you normally. but since last year when I got real sick I have been depressed. Just basically feeling useless because I can not work anymore, and I am a real outdoors type of person so it has been hard for me not go fishing every weekend with the hubby and kids. I can honestly saw that medication has helped me, but.........it took several different tries to find the right medication. I have tried Paxil (no sexual desire at all!), Celexa, Effexor, Diaxapan, and finally the one that seems to work and not effect my sex life or my personallity is Remeron Sol-tabs. It helps me to get to sleep at night also but it does not leave me groggy in the morning. Maybe trying different ones will be what you have to do. My husband was thrilled when I finally found one that helped me with the depression and got me back to my usual self sexually. I still can't do the outdoor stuff I would like to do as often as I would like but at least the rest of me is back to normal. Except for the pain, naseua, diareah, ect. I have seen some improvement of my day to day pain level with different drugs but the trade offs were not quite worth it. I have been devoid of personality, apothetic, and down right asexual. It is frustrating to say the least. I am sure the sexual side effects of this disease and some subsequent therapies one of the most cruel. I can be in terrible pain and full of desire without the ability to do anything about it; or I can be feeling pretty well and just entirely disinterested. Not sure which is worse; or who suffers worse, my husband or I ?? Hoping for a good alternative, Keri
Guest guest
We do share so much in common; I thouhgt I was the only one. There have been volums; and 444% of research grants to keep men " satisfied " . We have always fallen by the wayside. Yet ther has been so much research on the role of a family. Where is the role of a woman. Yes this pain makes it very difficult to be intimate and far more dificult to be honest. Wearily > I am a full figured woman, and I am hyper.. > > to coin both phrases.
