Guest guest
Hello Rajeev, In my last message I told you what the general advice is to people who have pancreatitis. It is difficult to say more without knowing your particular case. Only your doctors know this and I think it is wise to follow their advice. They don't seem to think you need enzymes. You may not need them yet, or ever. I have had pancreatitis all my life, over 50 years, but I have only been taking enzymes for a few months. It depends how the disease develops and the symptoms. Pancreatitis is very individual and no two people develop the disease in exactly the same way or at the same rate. These are all things you need to discuss with your doctors. Some people have just one attack of acute pancreatitis and it doesn't come back (provided they don't drink alcohol) whereas others, even if they have never drunk alcohol, continue to have acute attacks and may develop chronic pancreatitis. It really is difficult to predict. I believe that the no-alcohol and low fat diet does give you the best protection possible against more attacks. I do know CP patients who can eat pretty well what they wish but far more seem to do better on the low fat diet. However, with regard to food, you can go by trial and error a little, can't you? Follow your doctors' advice and see how you go. You can make changes as you need. On the other hand, if you have had pancreatic disease of any sort, you should definitely NOT drink alcohol because it causes damage to the pancreas even if you can't feel that damage at the time. I don't know of any doctor who does not advise most strongly against alcohol if you have this condition. I hope this is a little helpful. Maybe others will have more useful things to say. Best wishes for your health, Fliss
Guest guest
Rajeev, I wanted to say that I agree completely with Heidi. Although the doctors that treated you when you were having a crisis did an excellent job and helped you make it through that horrible time doesn't mean that right now they are the best option for you. I think it is very important that you make sure to find a GI doctor now who has the time to do a very thorough work up on you just to be safe. So many of us sufferers of pancreatitis had a recurrence of pancreatitis following a corrective surgery you just want to be prudent. 15 attacks of acute pancreatitis has taught me many things including how persistent this disease can be. It has also taught me that my first duty to myself, my wife, my family, and my friends is to do whatever it takes to survive and thrive. I cannot be valuable to anyone if I am wasting away. Put yourself number one on your list Rajeev and be well. thanks, Bert > > > I got no pain since the day i visited my surgeon and physican.......however i > was prescribed a couple of medicatioins naming Ocid 20, and Larynx.(if anyone > knows about it, its made in India). > > I asked him up when should i get back to hospital, he replied, " you dont have to > stress, its all cured, and if you want, visit us again after 6 months.(He said > follow up check up is not necessary) > > You're true that i'm not satisfied with the surgeon and physicians whom i'm > treating with, because they always are in hurry and do not explain everything in > details about my health. So, i guess, i must get with GI at once.
