I mentioned this before, but didn't get any answers or replies about it, so

I'll pose it as a question this time. When Cody was a baby we were told

Benadryl was a big-time no-no, unless it was being used once in a GREAT

while for an allergic reaction (i.e. rash, etc., that was itchy), because

the secretions in CF are already so thick and sticky (dry) that drying them

out more can make matters so much worse. We have used it when Cody had an

allergic reaction, and once after being at my parent's farm and he had over

90 mosquito bites (and yes, we even used DeepWoods Off!!!!!!!!!--I think

they LIKE that stuff now!), and was itching to high heaven.

We also don't use any cough/cold meds that have antihistamines in them (like

what Benadryl has), ever. Any one else told this??

S., mom to Cody (7, pwcf), DJ (8, nocf), and a (14, nocf)

Actually our clinic would rather use benadryll when Patti (2 wcf) needs help

with cold or allergy symptoms. We only use them when absolutely necessary. An

example would be if she is way to stuffy to breath or eat. It doesn't do to let

your kid fall behind in those departments when a very occasional dose of that

kind of stuff can help.
