I am happy to report that as of 9/8/03 we have over 2000 signatures on our petition. Although in order for Congress and the media to really understand and get involved with what we are trying to do, we need to grow that number into the MILLIONS since that would be a TRUE reflection of how many people 400 registered members in our group. I ask that EVERYONE here first sign the petition themselves if you have not already done so. Then tell at least 10 other people to do the same and if those 10 tell ten more, the numbers will grow proportionately to more adequately reflect the seriousness of our situation. I realize that many here are under great stress still trying to get their benefits, dealing with their illnesses and may not be up to this task. If that is the case please get a family member or friend to help you. Please do sign the Social Security Disability Reform Petition at: < http://www.petitiononline.com/SSDC/petition.html > Next we are soon coming up on election time and next year is the most important of all, the Presidential and congressional elections. That gives us just about one year to heavily campaign for our own cause and vote accordingly with those who support us. I suggest that you all go to the documents section of our website and copy the petition and the link and go to the following website: Congress.org: <http://www.congress.org> Type in your zip code and it will give you the info on all the elected officials in your area. Send each one of them a copy of the petition, the link to see the signatures and read the horror stories and then your own personal story. If you get any responses save them and send copies to SSD. If you are already getting your benefits save them for when you are up for review and send them at that time. At the same website in the media section put in your zip code and it will give you all the media contacts for your area. Tell them about our group, the petition and your personal story. Again if you are not able to do it yourself get a family member or friend to help you. I have not been on the boards much lately because I personally (with what little energy I have been able to muster) have been doing what I have just asked you to do, because I want to make sure that those of you still struggling will not have to do so much longer. I am in the process of getting a personal meeting set up with my own Congressman here and am going to request to speak on the floor of Congress in Washington if they will let me (even if I have to be carried in on a stretcher). I also got very good response from the article that ran in my local newspaper and have been answering many e-mails that have been coming directly to me. I ask that from now on if any of you have questions or need to vent – please contact me directly rather than on the message board at: <ssdcoalition@h...> (hotmail.com) That is the best way to reach me these days. I also have my own health problems I am dealing with, which seem to get worse with every passing day so if I don't respond right away please understand. I just hope I live long enough to one day see the reforms take place which we are fighting so hard for. Bless you all – be well!!!
