Guest guest
Fiona was on only-fluids until she was 5 years old. She was tube-fed until she was about 18 months old. She was so extremely sensitive in her throat and mouth after all those tubes and had huge problems swallowing and would throw up everything else. I was glad that she learned how to drink from a bottle at all. She finally started eating mushy foods at five, and then at 6 years old she was eating completely normal foods. Today, at 10, she eats better than any of my other kids ever did at that age. She will eat almost everything, just not extremely spicey stuff, but thats ok. For the first 13 months i had pumped my milk for her. After that she got a formula supplement with more protein etc because she needed more than the normal baby food could give her. We got that on perscription (Germany). To get her off the tube feeding and the fluids, she did a lot of physiotherapy especially for her facial and swallowing muscles, mostly castillo morales therapy. We also let her play with her food, she got a plate and normal food just like everyone else of the family, at every meal. And she could play with it, do what ever she wanted. So eventually she ended up with food on her fingers and then her fingers in her mouth. Again and again. It kept her interested, kept her trying, and kept her motivated to want to eat. (kept my washing machine running too). Today her table manners are a lot better than the boys' were at that age!!! so don't worry about that aspect of it )) all the best Gundula
Guest guest
LOL ! I'm sorry to inform you (if is anything like Noah) that the Fish Sticks will NEVER go away...he'll just figure out how to make them himself! In our house it's Pizza...every day! Noah will eat a Totino's (yuck) frozen pizza. Over the years, he has taken on more and more of the duties. First it was getting it out of the freezer. Then turning on the oven, always checking first to see if anything is inside the oven...which is where we keep the pizza pan! Next he would turn off the oven and open the door when he heard the " pizza beep " as he calls it. The final step was taking it out of the oven and putting it on the cutting board. He did this the other day...to my horror! I was sure he'd burn himself, but he was very careful, using the potholder. The only step he has trouble with is cutting it with the pizza wheel, that he still needs help with. Don't assume he ever had permission to take these bold steps, he just got tired of waiting on us and did it all himself. The bottom line is now we must lock and hide the key to the deep freeze, or Chef Noah would help himself to many pizzas a day! Enjoy the ride! Guest guest
Oh Kara, could you be talking about my angel - I put a lot of this down to their determination to prove to us they are capable of doing things the same. I believe Trent's motto in life is - " Anything you can do I can do as well " Trent is very much into frozen meals - I try to avoid having him in the supermarket with me as he will envitably head to the frozen food section and insist on a fried rice or tuna mornay meal, both imo revolting. Sometimes he will forget about them but most times, into the microwave set for about 99minutes but manages to take them out when just right! At the moment, he is cooking himself some pasta - 2 inches of water in the pot, add pasta and turn on the gas wait until pasta is soft - the main problem with this is he will put a whole packet of pasta in the pot. gets cross because he isn't doing it right and shouldn't be allowed in the kitchen - me, let him go it works in the long run, he is happy and it is good for his self esteem and independence. Keep smiling Jan, mother of Trent 22yo w/DS from the LandDownUnder Re: Feeding Issues LOL ! Guest guest
And the funny things is - even tho you think it taste disgusting- they like it- so really so long as they eat most if it who really cares how they do it ? has introduced to pasta- so if we have a side dish of pasta- the boys will eat a whole packet of the instant pasta packs- 4 serves- by themselves Aussie Leis- mum to 9 , Natasha 5 and 3. Character is like a tree and reputation like its shadow. The shadow is what we think of it; the tree is the real thing. Guest guest
Applesauce and mac & cheese aren't that bad together. We started out using bananas as a way to trick Sammy into eating something. It would gross out my poor father at Sunday dinners. Now she has decided she loves beans, cheese and of course ranch dressing. I take blame for the ranch dressing. Her daddy loves beans, so she sees that food item a lot as well. My big battle at the moment is getting her to not throw food she dislikes. UGH, it will come eventually - I just be paitient and fork feed her very tiny bites of things she would rather toss to the floor. ~ Feeding Issues Sheila, My son's is applesauce. This kind of thing can be a HUGE help when it comes to intro of foods. When we want him to (very picky eater and is bad for his diet) then I dip whatever food in applesauce and he gobbles it up. It is gross sometimes like with meat YUK. but it does the job. My favorite is refried beans dipped with applesauce. Mac and cheese dipped with applesauce... We probably go through a huge jar everyother day B ______________________________ ____________________________ 8:00? 8:25? 8:40?
