Guest guest
Our son was VERY ill with pancreatitis last winter. He had 2 more slight bouts of pain in the weeks following. Since then he has lost 55 lbs and follows a diabetic diet plus takes insulin shots and meds. he also exercises almost every day. No alcohol. it is clearly a matter of life and death for him. His triglycerides were 3500. Most dr.'s leave it up to the patient to figure it out....no fats, sugar or alcohol. Tough, but it beats the alternative. Good luck. (We went to the ER with the bouts of pain..6-8 hrs each time.)
Guest guest
I am probably not a good one to respond because I have had so little pain once I am out of the hosptial from an acute attack, but my doctor would not let me come home until the pain was gone. I was not allowed to eat until the pain was gone. I think something else is going on, or maybe he has cronic pancreatitis. I would sure want more help if I were you or a different doctor. Myrna -- son's pain Hi. I'm new to this--trying to find out what is best for my 23 year old son--he was in the hospital for 12 days with acute pancreatitis before moving to our city last month. Before he left the hospital, dr said tests were normal. He's experienced pain many times since he's been out, has been to the dr who said it would take 2-3 months before pan. was healed and to gut it out. This week it was very bad again and dr was not it office, son was told to go to ER if it was really bad, but he didn't want to unless absolutely nec.--he is presently unemployed, looking for a job but with pain, hasn't been able to do so much, and has no med. insurance, so doesn't want the hospital. Just wants something for the pain. Nurse said they didn't want to give him anything for pain because it could mask symptoms if something else was going on. So we've gotten thru the weekend. Is this pain stuff normal after an attack of acute pan.?? How does one know when to go to an ER or what to do about the pain? We're learning about this slowly, but are frustrated. Can anyone help? Thanks--Mom
