I was just wondering who of the group has been diagnosed with Alcohol

induced CP. I would love to chat with someone that is suffering with

it as I've not been diagnosed with CP but feel whatever is wrong with

me is do to alcohol.

Thanks so much and hope everyone's weekend is pain free.

That would include me. Allthough it was never officially diagnosed

as alcohol induced I can figure that one out for

myself......Whenever I drink even the slightest amount of alcohol I

am in pain for at least a week.....I can assure you that is a very

convincing argument for not drinking. FYI I have not touched a drop

in over 4 months now.....

well my symptoms now are severe LUQ chest pain that radiates around to my

back and is pretty much constant. When I eat, the pain becomes worse as if

something is stuck in my stomach. First got sick and wouldn't go away in July,

2000 - finally after 6 weeks doctors found my gall bladder was very bad w/o

stones and had it out. I did get some better but still have the left sided

pain.

I did however have a severe stomach virus in October of 1999 that lastest 3

days but never went to the doctor at that time. My blood levels have always

been normal. Sometimes I feel like I'm going nuts over this pain. Oh - by the

way - when I did get sick, I had been drinking so I know whatever is wrong was

due to the alcohol.

Take care,

Tonya

Hi Tonya,

I had only one attack and was diagnosed with chronic pancreatitis due

to alcohol. It was very hard to accept since I had went a whole year

without a drink. Because I continued to have pain the GI doctor did

an ERCP and said I had " Progressive pancreatic cirrohsis " I was

going to be symptomatic whether I drank or not.

I did very well for over a year until 8/28/03 I had severe pain in my

chest and was admitted to the hospital for bowel rest an pain

control. My Amylase and lipase levels were all normal. MY CT and

abdomial x-rays were all normal.

What symtoms are you having and have you had an Acute attack? I know

this disease is very complicated to diagnose. I agree with others in

the group about being persistent about finding out for sure if you in

fact may have CP.

I agree with Danny. I decided to go out one night with friends and

decided to have one drink which led to 2-3-4. (an alcoholic in

denile) It wasn't long before I had severe pain and started vomiting

along with profuse sweating. I know I can never have a drink of

alcohol again.

Also if you think you have alcohol induced CP it may be a good idea

to let your pharmacist know you are (may sound funny)allergic to

alcohol. There are many cough syrups and OTC meds that contain

alcohol which can trigger an attack.

Just a little info

Hi Tonya,

I am an alcoholic who was pretty much in a drunken haze from the

time I was 18 up to my bout with AP on March 16 of this year(age

39). For some time before my attack I had a sense that something was

wrong with pains very similar to what you describe. I actually had

what I'm sure was a mild attack on presidents day of this year. When

I called my HMO they said to take an antacid. The major pain

subsided but I was still left with the low level gnawing pain

particurarly when I ate a heavy fatty meal.

After my week in the hospital with AP I have not had anything to

drink. So far I seem to be OK and I pray that my years of self-abuse

have not damaged me beyond repair. I know that given my history that

at any time I could be suseptible to additional problems but like

they say , one day at a time.

The only advice I can offer is no matter what, leave the alcohol

alone. If it is the cause of the problem ( and it is very likely )

then even if it doesnt make the problem go away it will keep from

agrivating it. I don't know what your drinking is like, I was a VERY

HEAVY drinker every day for 20 years so if I didn't quit then an

early grave was in store for me regardless of what organ gave out

first.

If you want to chat e-mail me at : jbinns6269@...

I would be happy to do anything to help someone whose pain I know

only too well. I feel as if I have been given another chance and

anything I can do to help another in need is a blessing for both of

us.

Oh and BTW, after six months clean and sober I feel great that not

only have the pains subsided but I now have my life back since I no

longer live to drink.

I am glad you have found our site, though I am sorry you had to have an

acute pancreatitis attack to get here. I'm so glad you have decided to

stop drinking the alcohol. Even if you hadn't drank a lot and had an

acute attack, the pancreas becomes sensitive to alcohol and frequently

cause pain or another attack. I hope that you have no more pancreatitis

attacks now that you are no longer drinking and that the damage you have

is little. No one deserves to have this disease. Keep up the good work.
