I have seen some of you posting about this. The problem I am dealing

with now is that Amber is suppose to go to Florida with her school

the last week of April. This is making me very nervous with all the

scare of Sars. I talked to her doctor, and he said it really has to

be our decision whether we feel OK about this. Now that they have 3

more cases in California, I am just terrified. What would you all do?

Hey Margo,

I wouldn't let her go. I know she is probably really excited about the trip,

but if she ended up getting infected how would you feel then? We have it

terribly here, I feel like it is turning into an epidemic. I am afraid that is

what is going to happen.

Hi there,

I think you will have to make your decision , but traveling is not that bad

& the security was streamlined so well now, I didn't mind, except for the

cancelled flights & consolidating them. I changed into 3 different planes

going out to CA & also coming back. BUT.......It wasn't anything scary. We

left FL on the FRIDAY the war started (21st) and returned this Sunday

pm. Never even a hint of trouble.

I did say my usual prayers of course.

If you were going to someplace where there had been cases reported closer

to time your to go & what they had done about it. that would help the

decision. I do know we have an excellent security here ........have

too....... & that includes infection control, etc... we always have the

threat of foreigners coming with something, so have lots of things they do

to help......

I did notice they all were cleaning planes really well before we got on ,

after each trip ....and I always sit up in bulkhead with no one in front of

me but a wall.....so that helps too. ask for that .You will be on first -or

earlier...with children & you can also tell folks at check in you need

bulkhead seats............. I know it is a hard decision. But life is ,in

itself.............I wish you all really great vibes, lots of love, many

hugs, & a wonderful time . Hopefully they will have some med for this also

before you leave..

LOVE & HUGS<

This link lists where SARS cases are suspected in the U.S. Notice

there are no suspected cases in Florida.

http://www.cdc.gov/od/oc/media/sars.htm

I disagree with a lot of the opinions here. The risk is extremely

low. If my child were old enough to go on such a trip, and had the

opportunity, I would let him go. He will be robbed of enough

opportunities in his life, and he may never get another chance. I

would, however, keep careful track of the situation as the risk

changed. If the trip were to Florida tomorrow, I would say the

benefits definitely outweigh the risks for me, but who knows where

everything will be in May.

I live in Aurora, about 40 minutes north of Toronto. I am a school teacher,

grade six. A parent of one of the boys in my class is on house quarantine until

next Monday. She works at one of the hospitals that had a death from SARS. She

isn't developing any symptoms but they aren't taking any chances. She has to

wear a mask at all times, must sleep in a different area than her children.

A high school in Richmond Hill, just south of here, it is right across the

street from the hospital I spoke of above, some of the students go to it for

lunch in their cafeteria. They are all at home now on quarantine. I don' t

think any of them are sick, but they must stay home for 10 days. I believe it

was around 200 people.

To date, I think 6 people have died in the Toronto area. Most were elderly and

all had direct contact with the orignal source which was a hospital in

Scarborough (a suberb of TO) Some of the patients from this hospital were

transferred to the hospital in Richmond Hill which is how it got spread to that

facility.

We have had to cancel our pizza lunches until further notice. They don't want

the children eating foods from a shared container.

It's a little scary here at the moment, trying not to panic, but with Matty

having CF and this being a Respiratory disease, it worries me.

SARS

Just a quick question about SARS. has clinic next week in Denver

and I have heard that there have been a few cases of SARS in Colorado. Now

my question is this, should I have wear a mask when we go in the

hospital or just go like normal?

Hi ,

My daughter goes to Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and they recommend that

all CF patients wear masks from the time they enter the building until they

leave except when they are eating in the cafeteria or in the exam room. So, If

it was me, (and I have to do this on the 22nd) I would have my child wear a mask

the whole time they are there. This SARS thing is scary! There are 6 cases

here in PA and 3 more in nearby New Jersey. I plan to be extra careful!
