Guest guest
(K falls), You asked, " I'D LIKE ANY SUGGESTIONS YOU HAVE THAT MIGHT HELP ME. I M 5FT 7IN AND MY WEIGHT IS JUST BELOW 100 LBS " Dr. Irick, who spoke on pain management at the Symposium, stated that anyone prone to weight gain should avoid Amitriptyline, as it causes tremendous weight gain. Amitriptyline is a tricyclic antidepressant, but is used as a pain adjunct, which means it is used in conjunction with opiods or other pain medications to increase their efficacy. Adjuncts help the primary medication, in this case the opiod or pain medication, to work better and minimizes the amount needed. In someone who is having problems with weight loss, this medication would serve a dual purpose, or actually three purposes, pain, depression, and weight loss. When it was prescribed for me I put on 30 lbs within 6 months. I am not a physician and not in a position to make any prescription recommendations. But the PAI is a good venue to gather data to discuss with our doctor or nurse practitioner. Karyn E. , RN, Exec.
