Sister In Law

Hello,

I am new here and am trying to get help for my sister-in-law who

lives in North Carolina. She is quite ill and was just recently

diagnosed. Currently she weighs about 75 pounds. She can't eat

hardly anything. I have read the information at the Mayo Clinic,

Cleveland Clinic and Hopkins web sites.

Items that would be helpful:

1. Where should she go for treatment? Who are the most successful

doctors for this disease? I have lost confidence in their local

doctors and will encourage them to go whereever is necessary.

2. Has anyone in this group had a transplant? I read that some have

been done.

3. Any information which you think might help.

Thanks,

Lee

Dear Lee:

I too live in North Carolina and I have chronic pancreatitis. I

live in Asheville....Western North Carolina. The docs here send me

to Dr. Cotton at Medical University of South Carolina in

ton. He is world renowned. It is just as close as going to

Duke University Medical Center. Dr. Cotton came from England in the

90s and started a digestive disease center at Duke and then came to

South Carolina and started the Digestive Disease Center there. In

my own opinion (opinion only remember) he is the best. AGain, he is

known all over the world and as far as the best pancreatic care

close to North Carolina he is it!

you don't say what has caused your sister-in-laws pancreatitis do

they know? Where in NC does she live. I am ready and willing to

help any way I can. Treatment is very difficult sometimes to find

especially in Western North Carolina. In this end of the state,

there are many procedures they don't do ......... as far as the

pancreas and refer you out. That is how I wound up in ton.

Im telling you this guy is really, really good! Again I don't know

where in NC your sister in law is. I am in the medical profession

and in this area they like to play what I call " medical politics " so

you pretty much have to stick to your guns to get care for something

like this. Again, telling me what area you live in is important.

Good care here for the pancreas is very difficult.

If you would like to E-mail (at my private E-mail) your phone

number I can also call you as I have a line set up that I use just

for this kind of stuff.

Please give me more info on your sister in law and where she lives,

etc. etc. Also please feel free to write me at my E-mail address

which is kfortenb@...

I really would like to help. I have several folks in NC that I have

worked with personally helping them get the care they need!

God bless

Kaye..........Asheville, NC

Lee,

I'd like to second Kaye's recommendation of MUSC in

ton. Dr. Cotton is Chief of the Gastroenterology

Department and is excellent, as is any member of his staff. Dr.'s

and Hawes are both very exerienced, also, and have

treated many of our members for the chronic pancreatitis and

related surgeries, procedures, medications, etc.

Explore their website at:

http://www.ddc.musc.edu/ddc_pub/index.htm

Is your sister presently under the care of a gastroenterologist at

all? Do they know what caused her pancreatitis? Have they

prescribed enzyme supplements and vitamins to help her with

her meals? Is she following a low fat diet? Is she on any

medication?

Sorry for all the questions, but if you could answer some of these

questions, we might be able to be of more help to her.

With hope and prayers,

Jerry,

Thanks for responding. I will check out UNC's web site. Is there a

particular doctor?
